ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED AS I HEARD YOU PAINT HOUSES

New York Times Best Seller

Now a major motion picture directed by Academy Award® winner Martin Scorsese, starring Academy Award® winners Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Anna Paquin, and Academy Award® nominee Harvey Keitel, and written by Academy Award® winner Steven Zaillian.

The Irishman “gives new meaning to the term ‘guilty pleasure.’’’ (Bryan Burrough, author of Public Enemies, in The New York Times Book Review)

“Told with such economy and chilling force as to make The Sopranos suddenly seem overwrought and theatrical.” (New York Daily News)

“A terrific read.” (Kansas City Star)

The Irishman is an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked for legendary crime boss Russell Bufalino alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th Century. Spanning decades, Sheeran’s story chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and it offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries, and connections to mainstream politics. Sheeran would rise to a position of such prominence that in a RICO suit against The Commission of La Cosa Nostra, the US Government would name him as one of only two non-Italians in conspiracy with the Commission. Sheeran is listed alongside the likes of Anthony “Tony Pro” Provenzano and Anthony “Fat Tony” Salerno.

In the course of nearly five years of recorded interviews, Sheeran confessed to Charles Brandt that he handled more than 25 hits for the mob, and Brandt turned Sheeran’s story into a binge-worthy true crime classic.

Fact or Fiction, hard to tell.

I enjoyed the book and look forward to the movie. There are a lot of story lines that make you wonder how much is fact and how much is fantasy.

Have to listen to it again.

Would you consider the audio edition of I Heard You Paint Houses to be better than the print version?

The performance is great, I can't image just reading the book when the narration was so go.

What did you like best about this story?

Now we know where Hoffa went....

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time listening to Scott Brick but it won't be the last, hunting up books he's narrated.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Find out what really happened to Hoffa....

Fantastic

The story is phenomenal. The history of this county that Frank saw, experienced, and even altered is unbelievable. A gripping story that I did not want to take a break from.

Amazing

I have read / listened to hundreds of mafia genre books. This is one of the best. Based on what I already knew of Hoffa, Gallo and a few other things, I believe that this book is factual. He was already dying, he had no reason to lie. He was not doing it for ego or money. And too many other things check out. Of course there is no way to know for sure, but everything else adds up. Though I agree with Frank, the book name was horrible. If it had a different name, I 100% would have bought the book when it came out. Most likely I skipped over it due to the name. Thankfully Netflix made the movie and it led me to the book. The narrator really never matters in this genre. Scott Brick is excellent, but a strange choice.

The Truth

I had some doubts about half way through because of other accounts of the story's I read from other sources. But in the end, there is no doubt that this was the man that killed Hoffa.

An Educational, Exciting Read. Answers Questions.

After listening to this book I find it amazing that newscasters and some comedians, when Mr Jimmy Hoffa's name comes up, speak as if it is still a mystery as to what, where, how and when Mr Hoffa disappeared and that a few people tend to believe the major events Mr Sheerhan "confesses" is drivel and wild lies.. Written by Mr Charles Brandt, former Prosecutor and Chief Deputy Attorney General in Delaware and excellently narrated by Scott Brick, made me a believer. Mr Brandt, himself, says "there is a ring of truth to what he told me." Mr Brandt and Mr Sheerhan, so many years after the fact, drove to Detroit and "the house" Mr Sheerhan describes in detail, as he does throughout, and found all to "add up". As to the "wild rambling" into the JFK matter, I thought "why would Mr Sheerhan bring up the JFK assassination in his revelations of his life and doings in the alleged "Mafia?". Mr Sheerhan's storyline makes sense and logic leading me to believe him. It's not a long, drawn out story as to JFK., just a passing episode he mentions in relating incidents and times, keeping continuity . Dr. Michael Baden stated "case closed" as to the 'Jimmy Hoffa disappearance" after his read. An outstanding, educational and exciting book. WWII was a revelation to me as to the "soldiers" of various families and how they operated and accepted the horror. Not all but some...Like Frank. The BEST on this subject I have ever read!

Thank you

Now we know. RIP Frank Sheeran. Glad we now know the truth about Hoffa. And JFK and Bobby too. Always thought LBJ and the Underground got em all..... even Marylyn Monroe.

Credible and dramatic

I'm glad I got this book, and surprised I didn't know about it earlier. Brandt did a professional and outstanding job including excellent first and last chapters. The last chapter made my hair stand on end. Brick did the book justice as narrator. Frank Sheeran was honest, I believe.

This is going to make a great movie. Brandt explained why the official word on Hoffa's disappearance is elusive despite very strong evidence.

Sheeran provided different parts of his life. I could not stop listening. One of the best mob books of all time, in my opinion.
