Publisher's summary

On the 24th of February 1994, police knocked on the door of an aging house in the English town of Gloucester. They'd come to serve a search warrant in the case of a missing girl - the daughter of the house's inhabitants. What they uncovered would shock the world: decades of child abuse, an underground torture chamber, and a burial ground containing the bodies of the spent victims of the torture - including that of the missing daughter. The address was 25 Cromwell Street, and these discoveries would earn it the moniker "The House of Horrors."

At the end of the investigation, the number of the murdered was 12 - all young females, including one daughter and one stepdaughter. The couple responsible were Rosemary and Frederick West, and this book will tell you their story. We'll start from the very beginning, with the killers' childhoods and upbringings, exploring in detail the factors that contributed to their later depravities. From there we'll detail the crimes themselves, following the tragic tales of their victims, including the mechanisms that led them to their grim fates. We'll examine how the full extent of their crimes was uncovered in the subsequent investigation. Finally, we'll dig into the malignancies both surrounding the killers and within themselves that drove them to perpetrate their heinous acts.

This book is not one for the faint of heart. It enters into graphic details that may upset those of a delicate constitution. It is a true life report on real events. If you believe as I do that we are better served knowing and understanding the full depths of darkness the human soul is capable of, then listen on and discover the story of one of Britain's most infamous killer couples - Fred and Rose West.

not to bad, but wish it had more info

First off I have to say: I do not particularly share the same beliefs as the writer that a lot of BDSM related play can result in death.
but I am thinking it meant more as a " they are crazy, and just didn't care for safety"?

Other than that the story was not bad. Creepy people like that live among us.
though I do wish it went into more detail. Not gruesome detail but just more detail on things happened with the case.

True Crime Yet Again

Any additional comments?

Fred and Rose West are some notorious baddies that I've heard and read a lot about in the past. This book was a concise telling of their story, an expertly crafted look into the truly disturbed. Green does a great job of knowing what to include and what to leave out and Sprance narrates the story in a satisfying way. I would recommend this short true crime book to any true crime lovers!

Well written book about a disturbing topic

TARGET AUDIENCE: Written for those who are interested in the darker side of the human experience. Thankfully this does not delve deeply into the BDSM, but just shares the facts about the case. I would absolutely be comfortable with my teenage children reading this.

STORY LINE: Details the story of Fred and Rose West from their childhood to their eventual death and incarceration. The author shows a respect for human life, showing how there were many times when concerned individuals could have stopped this horrible event. I particularly appreciated the author’s opinions at the end of the book. They were insightful but respectful.

OVERALL: I really enjoyed reading this book. I listened to this book in one sitting. I was unfamiliar with this story, living a half a world away. Highly Recommended.

NOT for the faint of heart.

I knew the story of these two POS who killed just about anyone they met. But I didn't know the inner workings of how they started and what happened to them as children. If you have a weak stomach or you are too sensitive to hear about all the incest and other weird things that are talked about in this book, AVOID THIS ONE. If you are someone who takes great pleasure in hearing about living things being tortured to death, again, AVOID THIS ONE and get some help!!

Why did I give this freak show 5 stars? The writer was good at writing this book. Nothing was over looked and everything that needed to be said was said. This was a great book to see how and why people kill.

amazing true crime

This non fiction book was great in its ability to not sensationalize the crimes. The book also main good points about how to view killers.

Good Read

Fred & Rose West: Britain's Most Infamous Couple Killers was another good true crime story by Ryan Green. Fred and Rose were served with a search warrant in February 1994. They were looking for a missing girl who lived in the house. There were decades of child abuse, torture and a burial groound of their victims. They murdered twelve young girls, including a daughter and step daughter. This was a good telling of a true crime story that shook Britain to it's core. I can't wait to read more by Ryan Green.

Missing some parts

This book seems more like a well written college paper. There are many many facts left out such as dates and crime details. Overall not a bad book but it has room for improvement.

Some people are messed up.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Perhaps to the right friend. it is pretty graphic and would turn the stomach of many.

Any additional comments?

I was provided a review copy by the author or narrator. The events are given in a straight forward manner with minimal fluff and without disrespect to the victims of the crimes by the wests. It has the feel of being alongside an investigator who was 90% aware of what transpired and 10% still investigating.

serial killers

It was very interesting. Not as gruesome as billed in the lead in, should be a teaching moment in teenage lives as to why not to trust some people.
