Publisher's summary

This work gives clear rigorous answers to the fundamental questions of epistemology, these being:

  • What is knowledge?
  • How does declarative knowledge differ from procedural knowledge?
  • How does intuitive knowledge differ from discursive knowledge?
  • How does scientific knowledge differ from non-scientific knowledge?
  • What is the difference between discovery and justification?
  • What is the nature of our knowledge of the past, the future, the merely possible, and the present but not perceptible?
  • How is conceptual knowledge different from empirical knowledge?
  • Is all knowledge inferential?
  • Is all knowledge theoretical?
  • Is all inferential knowledge theoretical?
  • Is the mind transparent to itself?
  • Is the concept of unconscious ideation a coherent one?
  • What is the Gettier problem and what is the solution to the Gettier problem?

This book is appropriate for beginners and also for researchers.

The ultimate philosophy book

Where does Epistemology rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Number 1

What other book might you compare Epistemology to and why?

Probably something by Hume, because it is clear and logical.

What about Randy Whitlow’s performance did you like?

His deep voice, a relaxed yet focused quality. Very rich and nuanced voice; is sensitive to the fault-lines in this richly articulated material.

If Alex Baldwin were smart, this is what he would say.

Any additional comments?

This books puts other philosophy books to shame. Bravo.

A feast for your brain!

At last someone teaching epistemology who actually believes that knowledge is possible!

If you or someone you love is in the habit of using language to communicate. You need to listen to this audiobook. TWICE!

Brilliant organization and presentation of the subject matter!

You need to think more deeply about how you can know what is true.

Here is a great first step.

the book for serious philosophers

Would you consider the audio edition of Epistemology to be better than the print version?

yes, in that it made me really take in each sentence. also, there is a subtly lyrical quality, almost poetic, metered quality to it, which one has to hear it to appreciate.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Epistemology?

the discussion of the paradox of analysis. it was brilliant, made me realize how incompetent my professors in college were.

Have you listened to any of Randy Whitlow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

yes, impressed by its authoritativeness

Any additional comments?

if you are a thinker, get it. if you want fluff don't.
