Publisher's Summary

Best-selling author Peter Navarro (The Coming China Wars) and Greg Autry challenge the dominant paradigm of a "Chinese Miracle" - the one featuring a modernizing, progressive Chinese state heading toward political reform and driving global economic growth with its new found embrace of capitalism and freedom. Tearing this delusion away, Death by China documents the myriad ways that a powerful, wealthy, and corrupt Chinese Communist Party emboldened by a growing nationalistic frenzy is becoming the biggest threat to global peace, prosperity, and health since Nazi Germany.

From currency manipulation and abusive trade policies, to slave labor and deadly consumer products, China's ruthless rulers threaten the livelihood of the citizens of every developed nation. These thugs have created a frightening, amoral society ruled by a constant fear hidden to outsiders and bought off with the ill-gotten profits of a myopic quest for economic advantage at any cost - social, environmental, or civil rights concerns be damned. Worse, as with everything else, China is scaling and exporting this model around this world, threatening its neighbors and exploiting developing nations across the globe with a new imperialism.

While America worries that Al Qaeda or Iran might get their hands on a weapon of mass destruction, China is using our Wal-Mart dollars to build them by the score, filling brand new nuclear submarines with missiles aimed at our heartland and building stealth planes designed to obliterate our friends in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

America's policy of appeasement and perpetual bending to Beijing's tacit threat to stop funding our unsustainable consumption-based economy and deficit-addicted government has left the Chinese people and the world in a frightening position while achieving absolutely nothing. With each new attempt at further "engagement", China simply rounds up more artists, writers, and political dissidents into its gulags and continues its policies of virtual genocide against the peoples of Tibet and the Uighars of East Turkestan. It tightens control over media and the Internet and expands its regional, territorial, and resource claims. Laughing at our timidity, it becomes ever bolder in executing its plan to shutter every last manufacturing plant in the West.

Meanwhile, Western turncoat CEO's are content with pumping up one more quarterly report by driving every last high-value manufacturing jobs to Guangzhou or Chengdu. Congress is happy to be re-elected with contributions from those same corporations. Together they are happy to leave the rest of us with a future of low-paying service and retail "careers" based on selling junk made in China to each other while accumulating a pile of Chinese debt and building a geopolitical time bomb of epic proportions.

For every American, European, Japanese, or Korean listener who wonders where his job has gone and worries about the world his children will inherit, Death by China is a must listen. The book features an inspiring forward by Chinese Dissident Baiqiao Tang and a brilliant epilogue by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher.

What the Critics Say

"Like a modern-day Paul Revere, this book offers the most urgent of warnings about how China is systematically destroying the American economy under the false banner of 'free' trade - and in the process, severely weakening our national defenses." (Ian Fletcher, Senior Economist, Coalition for a Prosperous America)

"A high-powered rifle shot that hits the Beijing bull’s-eye dead-on." (Dylan Ratigan, host of MSNBC’s The Dylan Ratigan Show)

"Final wake up call for America"

Amazinglly well written. The narrator was outstanding in his deliverance of details. This is my very first review, and i have bought almost 200 titles from audible. The greatest book to date from Peter Navarro.

"The author will negotiate our new Trade Deals!"

For those not involved in manufacturing and production. You should know that this author is 1000% correct about the lack of concern of many Chinese suppliers with doing good work.

I have seen, personally, many bad castings. Bad forgings, bad valves, and bad workmanship that had to be manually sorted from finished goods to protect clients. I have also seen many designs and products basically stolen from companies.

The author goes beyond manufacturing into agriculture, food processing, mining practices, and computer hacking by America's not so good friend, the "People's" Republic of China

"An Eye Opening Summary of Events in China"
Where does Death by China rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would rank this book in the very top of my list of Audio Books simply because of the relevant content and how the author uses verbal footnotes and references from other publications and organizations to back up and support his information.

What did you like best about this story?

The purchase of a new Kindle Fire to pass the time in airports and long car rides brought me back to reading and of course listening to audiobooks. This book turned out to be a great reintroduction to audio books since my wife and I were actually in China for 14 days while I listened to it.When some of the information seemed to be going into gray areas or down paths of interpretation by the Author he provided the names of newspapers, magazines and government agency reports to support his summaries of the actual events.

What does Christopher Hurt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The tone of the audio was very matter of fact with a hint of intrigue. It was almost like listening to a spy reporting to his superiors. Listening to it as opposed to reading it brought out the Authors intended meanings. It would be hard to read this book and get the full impact of the information without the audio.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

As I said, my wife and I were actually in China on a 14 day tour while I listened to the book.It was very difficult to put the Kindle down while visiting many of the sites referenced in the book and seeing first hand the incredible rate of growth China is going through. The book helped explain how and why these changes are happening while our tour guides could only gloss over many of the questions the other members of the tour were asking.

    Any additional comments?

I'd love to see a follow up by the author now that a few years have past since it was written and many of his predictions or summations have actually proven to be correct.

    "Borderline conspiracy theory. Huge bias."

Ok, China is far from perfect. But this book takes examples of problems and twists them into a way to make people believe there is some kind of greater plan to take over the universe. I am a foreigner living in China. Many of his claims are extremely far fetched. The US doesn't have hackers? US businessmen don't try to cut corners? US politicians are not corrupt? US doesn't use it's military inappropriately? give me a break.
For more insightful books on China, read books by Peter Hessler.

    "Wake-up call"

We should all be aware of the threat China poses to the U.S. and our manufacturing base. We didn't learn from the failures of Ford investment in Germany before WWII and later the Soviet Union. When will we learn that investment in our own country should be our priority.

Takes a negative view on China, with plenty of reasons to look that way. I like a lot of topics in here, but I feel I now need a more china friendly book to balance myself.
