Publisher's summary

One of the key sources for the modern witchcraft revival, this influential work contains the rituals for the sabbat or witch-meeting, the charm of stones consecrated to the goddess Diana, and spells to find lost items or win love. While traveling in Italy in 1866, Charles Leland heard of a manuscript containing the ancient secrets of Italian witchcraft. There, he encountered a witch named Maddalena, who introduced him to Aradia, the gospel of the witches.

Incomplete:

What I heard was wonderful, however, I would have enjoyed the complete book by Leland.

Two chapters and a little over an hour reading does not do the book justice.

Entertaining, but highly abridged

I was surprised to find this audio version of "Aradia: Gospel of the Witches" did not match the text I have nor the one available free online. I thought I'd be able to read along with the audiobook and would have proper pronounciations of the Italian passages. Such was not the case, especially as the Italian passages are completely missing from the audiobook.

There is no mention in the audio of which chapter is being read. By looking at the table of context in my text, I found each myth, legend, and spell, present in a different order. It was still possible to read along, though with some difficulty.

Most of the tales & spells are in the audio version, so if you don't care about the order in which they're read or the lack of Italian language for the spells, this is still an entertaining audiobook, worth it's price.

Not at all what I expected from the description.

I don't know what to say except that this reads like a simple retelling of the biblical myth that I also cannot stand. And it's something that I can't believe in because it's rambling at best and "stream of conscious" tripe at its worst. The read was just as boringly monotone as the text.

Not what I thought

This book was not what I was looking for. The narrator was not compelling to listen to.
