Publisher's summary

Bernard Goldberg takes dead aim at the America Bashers (the cultural elites who look down their snobby noses at "ordinary" Americans and detest so much of what this country is about); the Hollywood Blowhards (incredibly ditzy celebrities who think they're smart just because they're famous); the TV Schlockmeisters (including the one whose show has been compared to a churning mass of maggots devouring rotten meat); the Intellectual Thugs (big-wigs at some of our best colleges, whose views run the gamut from left-wing to far left-wing); and many more.

Goldberg names names, profiling the villains in his rogues' gallery, one by one, from 100 down to 1, and yes, you-know-who is #37. But Goldberg doesn't just round up the usual suspects we have come to know and detest. He also exposes some of the people who operate away from the limelight but still manage to pull a lot of strings and do all sorts of harm to our culture.

100 People Who Are Screwing Up America is about a country where as long as anything goes, sooner or later everything will go.

Strong Language--Recycled Ideas

I bought this audiobook from Audible and found it very easy listening. The audiobook probably works better than the paper version. Mr. Goldberg has the voice of television and therefore sounds convincing. But, some parents who listen in the car with children should be aware that the recording has some very strong language.

Mr. Goldberg bemoans the fact that many of America's fatuous celebrities are self-indulgent, self-important, disingenuous, and often crude loudmouths, lacking humility and dignity. They are suicidally contributing to a general decline in civility and urbanity, which are the hallmarks of a great society. I think he is right. But this slow process of degeneration has been going on since the end of the First World War. It is what happens when faith in anything important--anything at all -- is lost and all that is left are diversions and cheap ridicule. Unfortunately, the book sounds like an angry man venting his frustration at a world which holds nothing sacred except vain humanism and opportunism. His book is a weaker version of Duncan William's book Trousered Apes published in 1971 and now out of print.

Perhaps Mr. Goldberg's next book will give us another 100 people who hold out some hope for America. Let's hope that he can replace all that anger with some optimism about our future. How about it Bernard?

Good book and fun to listen to.

I like all his books. This one is fun to listen to and helps to listen to someone who makes some sense about our world we live in today. It really gets to the nitty gritty and glad that he had the courage to tell it all.

Great GOP Propaganda

This book is great for those of us who believe that the GOP should be judged differently than Democrats. The people mentioned in this book like to point out the double standards, lies, mismanagement, cronism, adultry, nation building, budget busting, and the double speak of Republicans because they are Un-American. The try to ruin the reputation of our great President because he was failed businessman, a draft dodger of sorts, an oilman who could not find oil, a leader that has taken more vacation time then any other (and he still has 3 years to go), who hates to read, takes naps, and goes to bed as early as many grade school children. Obviously these people are envious of the man that represents all that is great about American Conservatism. Finally these people are angry at the party that is giving tax breaks to the top 1% because they are jealous that they are not millionaires and therefore losers.

Wrong Title.

The title should be "100 Screwed Up People in America." Most of the people mentioned in this book aren't "screwing up America", they are just screwed up. About half of the book is comprised of left wing journalists, politicians and political pundits. The rest are people I've never heard of.

Very few of the people mentioned in the book have, or have ever had, the clout to screw up anyone but themselves. (Ken Lay excepted.) The rest I don't care about and will probably never hear about again, assuming I even knew them in the first place. None of them have any effect on my life!

Bernard's rants are fun to listen to, but by the time he gets down to number 60 on his list they are getting thin. This book is not recommended unless you are a big Benard Goldberg fan.

Worth my time.

I learned a lot about people who shape the news and our politics. Well researched. No matter what your views, this book has something to offer.

An eye opener

I love it! I did not know all of the people in the book - like the rap stars and people at the TV networks but enjoyed reading about them.

Okay Book

This book starts out great with Pairs Hiltons parents being at the bottom of the list at 100, but as Bernard Goldberg reveals people on his list of 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America it gets old with all of his liberal bashing. This is an okay read.

Thanks

It's good to hear from someone who uses the media in a way that hopefully will improve our society. Listen to it objectivley it is reality not just someone speaking out with a chip on his shoulder.
