Publisher's summary

Of the four of us only three remained, and there was no going back from that.

Emily and Josephine have always shared everything. They’re sisters, flatmates and best friends. It’s the two of them against the world. When Emily has the perfect wedding and Josephine finds the perfect man, they know things will change forever.

But nothing can prepare them for what, or who, one of them is willing to give up for love. Four people. Three couples. Two sisters. One unforgivable betrayal.

From the best-selling author of Missing Pieces comes a heart-wrenching story about family, loyalty and obsession that will have you racing to the finish.

Critic reviews

“A stunningly assured debut that explores the ripples of a terrible family tragedy on the surviving fragile members. Beautifully written and surprisingly life-affirming.” (Sarah Pinborough)

Wonderful heartfelt book

This book is about family and human frailties. The narrator is perfect for the book. You will reflect on this one. I highly recommend it!

Not a great story for me

I did not enjoy this book at all .. too selfish a woman and the narration was slow and sometimes boring!! Wanted to give up on it but kept thinking someone might wake up and show some emotion or remorse!!

Wow!

I really enjoyed this book not because I liked the story but because it was uncomfortable reading. I know that sounds like a bit of a paradox, but great books should challenge and this really did. The author describes the tension so well that I could really feel it and couldn't stop listening until the end. I wondered if the reader is supposed to dislike like the main protagonists (Emily) or her friend (Jack) because of what they do, but I didn't because I found their situation wholly believable. It was the sister (Josephine) who I really thought was the glue that kept this story together and real. Without Josephine input (right up until the end), this would have been just another cheating story. Many on Goodreads criticized the ending but for me was perfect.

I strongly believe that the narrator makes or breaks a book, even a good one. For me the narration was perfect.
