Publisher's summary

The Sunshine State’s most lovable psychopath, Serge A. Storms, kills it in this zany adventure from the “compulsively irreverent and shockingly funny” (Boston Globe) king of mayhem, New York Times best-selling author Tim Dorsey.

Serge and Coleman are back on the road, ready to hit the next stop on their list of obscure and wacky points of interest in the Sunshine State. This time, Serge’s interest is drawn to one of the largest retirement villages in the world - also known as the site of an infamous sex scandal between a retiree and her younger beau that rocked the community.

What starts out as an innocent quest to observe elders in their natural habitats, sample the local cuisine, and scope out a condo to live out the rest of their golden years soon becomes a Robin Hood-like crusade to recover the funds of swindled residents. After all, our seniors should be revered and respected - they’ve heroically fought in wars, garnered priceless wisdom, and they have the best firsthand accounts of bizarre Floridian occurrences only Serge would know about. But as the residents rally for Serge to seek justice on their behalves, two detectives are hot on the heels of Serge and Coleman’s murderous trail.

In this epic adventure that jumps between the present day and the tumultuous times of the Vietnam War, mystery fans are in for a witty and deliciously violent delight from the twisted imagination of best-selling author Tim Dorsey.

Another of the Most Fortuitous Combinations of Story and Narrator

I have read nearly all of Dorsey’s Serge A Storm books and have listened to the majority of them. Even the least exciting was still very pleasurable.

This story, like all the rest, deals with a present day problem in Florida, several different story lines, lots of Florida history, and Serge as the one who brings it all together and makes it all work out.

Serge, the lovable serial killer, uses his powers for the benefit of society and the protection of its weaker and more helpless members and gives the reader a real appreciation of just how versatile the inventory of Home Depot can be.

The narrator, Oliver Wyman, is to recorded books what Mel Blanc was to Warner Bros cartoons. His range of vocal characterizations is extremely wide and consistent. I have NEVER heard any narrator so completely inhabit a character as Wyman does Serge. I urge Recorded Books to have Wyman perform the first four they started with George Wilson. Wilson is a good reader, but his characterizations of Serge and Coleman are so off that listening is painful. If Recorded Books did this, I would buy those versions immediately.

Serge, Coleman, Russian Interference

Been wondering how pairing Elmer’s Glue with a humidifier could serve as a murder weapon? How about a 9 volt battery with Brillo Pads? Have a taste for poetic justice? You’ve come to the right place.

If you haven’t tried the Serge Storms series yet, you ought to start at the beginning. But this latest volume should serve well as a stand-alone sampler, if that's how you're coming to it.

Two complaints: 1. The dynamic range of the recording is too wide. The screams of Serge’s victims had me reaching for the volume control, only to have to turn it back up when the normal text resumed. The previous volumes read by Oliver Wyman (excellent here as always) didn’t have this problem. 2. Given the author’s rate of production, it will be a whole year before the next volume appears. Serge would not have the patience for such a lengthy wait.

Not for me

I don't know which I disliked more, the story or the narration. Both are equally bad

The best Serge novel yet!

I've read/listened to this series multiple times, and this story was the best so far.

What I want is this book made into a Prime/Netflix special starring Brad Pitt as Serge and Charlie Day as Coleman. Is that too much to ask?
