Publisher's summary

Men are optional. That's the credo Emma Chandler's suffragette aunts preached and why she started a successful women's colony in Harper's Station, Texas. But when an unknown assailant tries repeatedly to drive them out, Emma admits they might need a man after all. A man who can fight - and she knows just the one.

Malachi Shaw finally earned the respect he craved by becoming an explosives expert for the railroad. Yet when Emma's plea arrives, he bolts to Harper's Station to repay the girl who once saved his life. Only she's not a girl any longer. She's a woman with a mind of her own and a smile that makes a man imagine a future he doesn't deserve. As the danger intensifies, old feelings grow and deepen, but Emma and Mal will need more than love to survive.

Mixed Feelings

Story was good. It had adventure, suspense, mystery, romance... Yet, the narrators voice was really hard to listen to. It grated on my nerves and seemed unnatural; too breathy and didn't fit most of the time. Worth a listen if you don't mind the narrator.

No Other Will Do

I liked the story and both leading and supporting characters. The book had a novel plot for a historical western romance. The narrator did an excellent job.

A very good book with an excellent message

Ahhhh <3 <3
Karen Witemeyer can't disappoint me with her books, it's not even possible, her books are so adorable my heart can't even handle all that cuteness
This book was so powerful and it got a great message .. a message I wish if more books would relay it to the readers ' being a feminist doesn't mean you hate men '
being a strong woman doesn't mean that you have to see men as creatures of evil .. they have their own issues as much as women do, if we work together as a team we will prosper :))
a very fine book by a very fine author .. most recommended

The Narration was very good and it really kept me in contact with the story .. read it you won'r regret it :)

This is a wonderful, clean Historical Fiction!

Young Malachi lost his parents and was forbidden to live in the shack after his father’s funeral because of delinquent rent payment. He had no other family nor close friends He was on his own. Beaten, frozen, starving and desperate, he found some relief from a small barn. He would be certain to be gone by early sunrise He didn’t need more trouble.
As he was trying to get his rain-soaked clothes off and find some straw or something to warm him, a very young Angel approached him. His life would never be the same .
This is such a poignant story about deprivation, humanity, true Christianity, bullying, feminism, strong community, abuse, loyalty, criminal activity, and more.
The story is consumed with many devoted individuals who are living a great cause. It involves strong familial ties between a family that is not legally bound together.
No Other Will Do has a multitude of topics the reader/listener can easily connect with. I suggest you have a few Kleenex on hand.
The Narrator, Johanna Parker did an outstanding job in reading and performing this story. Except for twice re-reading a line, her voices and energy was consistent and strong.
The characters were mostly endearing, except for a couple. Those inspired a hexing reaction.
The Title and Cover were very well chosen and eye-catching.
I absolutely loved this audiobook. I listened to it twice and enjoyed it just a much the second time.

What a wonderful story

I dont write reviews really but I had to write my first one with this book.

If you arent religious this book can be fairly heavy handed in that aspect. So if that's maybe not for you I would forgo this story.

The love and affection the characters have for each other is organic and lovely. Even the supporting cast has depth and their own flavor. It's a beautiful story and I had no trouble being immersed in the time the story takes place. I will be re listening in the future and keeping this gem in my library.

Excellent story & Fantastic Narrator

I loved this story & didn’t want it to end. It had a little bit of everything in it. The narrator was fantastic, her voice and character accents were distinctive, making each character come alive. Looking forward to checking out more of Karen Witemeyer’s books!
