Publisher's Summary

As one of al-Qaeda's most respected bomb-makers, Aimen Dean rubbed shoulders with the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks and swore allegiance to Osama bin Laden himself.

As a double agent at the heart of al-Qaeda's chemical weapons program, he foiled attacks on civilians and saved countless lives, brushing with death so often that his handlers began to call him their spy with nine lives.

This is the story of how a young Muslim, determined to defend his faith, found himself fighting on the wrong side - and his fateful decision to work undercover for his sworn enemy. From the killing fields of Bosnia to the training camps of Afghanistan, from running money and equipment in Britain to dodging barrel bombs in Syria, we discover what life is like inside the global jihad, and what it will take to stop it once and for all.

Good, not great

An interesting story of a jihadi turned spy turned erstwhile reformer. As an in-depth and up close look into the mindset of the Islamist terrorist movement, it is pretty compelling. There is no doubt that this is a brave and good man who has significantly contributed to the cause of preventing terrorist plots and action.

It’s not exactly a swashbuckling spy story with lots of action or close calls. My guess is that is probably the pretty typical life of a true spy.

An excellent and profoundly informative book

This was an excellent and profoundly informative book, which was both exciting and frightening in equal measure.
Sadly, in its realistic description of the underlying roots of Jihadism, it leaves the reader depressed for the future of Islam’s relationships with the Civilized World.

Exceptional first hand account of the Jihad ideology

An exceptional first hand account from someone who has lived the life of a Jihad and fought for something bigger than himself. Some may argue that what he done was wrong but having listened to this book, and others like it, I get the distinct impression that Aimen was devout and merely wanted to contribute to the war in an effort to protect his brothers and sister - it was the corrupt and evil that perverted the honourable Muslims intentions.

Listen to this and understand that it’s not simply black and white good and bad but a complex world of ideology.

Brilliant!

Amazing book covering broad and detailed topics

One of the best books I have read. it does a fantastic job of covering both broad topics like the theology behind Al Qaeda, ISIS etc. and smaller details on specific events like 9/11 and the laptop battery bomb attempts

Interesting insight into taliban, extremism

A sad yet interesting insight into an individual intellectual child who's Mind was Warped by extremist islamists. Saudis Arabias whabbism and how the extremists twist the rules of Islam to suit their goals. a useful intro into Islam as a whole and the 'jihad' thats been fought not as defence as originally meant but as a offensive act against the west.
Got a bit bored and lost focus about 8 chapters in, the names are hard to recall and the connections a Bit tenuous at times.

Like it was made for the screen

If you didn't know this was a true story, you'd think you were reading a screenplay. Aimen's story is truly that incredible, and unbelievable, and yet it all happened.

Another reason this book sticks out is because it shows Muslims (Ali Soufan is another) have literally have been on the front line actively combating Islamist terrorism. This is something most in the West almost never hear about.

Great book, balanced and in-depth view of the current issues we are experiencing in the Middle East.

Great book, balanced and in-depth view of the current issues we are experiencing in the Middle East in light of history and personal experience.

Aimen should now do an in-depth analysis of the Syrian conflict.

Brilliant

This is not just a gripping story about a guy who has lived an incredible life, but a deeply insightful book into the worldview of extremists and potential remedies.

If you like this I'd also recommend Aimen's podcast - Conflicted.

fascinating look into islamic extremism<br />

Very topical subject about Islamic extremism and one mans journey to discover the true meaning of his faith. I found this book educational and marvelled at the courage shown by the main character after becoming a spy for the British Secret Service . The narration was excellent. I would definitely recommend this highly entertaining book.
