Publisher's Summary

Nikola Tesla pursued his ideas for wireless lighting and worldwide wireless electric power distribution in his high-voltage, high-frequency power experiments. Tesla explained the principles of the rotating magnetic field in an induction motor by demonstrating how to make a copper egg stand on end using a device he constructed known as the Egg of Columbus and introduced his new steam-powered oscillator AC generator.

Inside, you’ll hear about:

  • A promising intellect
  • Health complications
  • Inventive work
  • A troubled mind
  • Unusual experiences
  • Mental breakdown
  • Controversial viewpoints
  • A forgotten mind
  • From breakdown to brainstorm
  • Overshadowed by rivals
  • Death of a forgotten mind
  • And much more!

Based on Tesla's new ideas for electrical equipment, including a thermomagnetic motor idea, Alfred S. Brown and Charles F. Peck formed the Tesla Electric Company. Nikola Tesla developed an induction motor that ran on alternating current (AC), a power-system format that was rapidly expanding in Europe and the US because of its advantages in long-distance, high-voltage transmission.

Genius..the title says it all.

Although I am quite interested in the technical side of his story, I enjoyed the development of Tesla from an unknown to acclamation of his genius by the great inventors of his age, like the singer who is rejected by the record company, and then rockets to stardom, Tesla becomes the superstar in his own right. It is amazing how many ideas came out of this one man's mind, that was claimed by others as theirs.

Tesla the genius!

A thorough and compelling biography of one of the most misunderstood, tragic scientific figures in human history. There has been a resurgence of study and popular attention to Tesla's brilliant oeuvre, and we are all beneficiaries of this renewed interest. This book is full of primary sources (letters, mostly, and some journals) that bring Tesla to life for devotée and neophyte alike.

nice

Nikola Tesla was truly the best inventive mind of his time. I can see how Edison was envious of everything that Tesla did. I bought another book about Tesla for my grandson who specializes in Science. It's not that hard to follow this man's great mind!

Very good bio

Never mind the fact I've been a fan of Nikola Tesla for years, for someone who is researching Tesla's work for a science fiction novel, this was a wonderful find. It gave me all kinds of tidbits of information that I might not have found elsewhere. I'm very pleased with it and enjoying it very much.

good one

Tesla was truly a prolific mind, arguably one of the most influential human beings ever, and apparently he was also an excellent writer. This was the first book that I read in it's entirety in over 15 years, and I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of science, mechanics and human thoughts and emotions. There seemed to be slight editing or printing errors in this paperback, such as indentations and new paragraphs in the middle of sentences, but aside from that it is an excellent book

Visionary! Inspiring!

Beautiful! I find the genius of Tesla utterly stunning. He opens his visions of a fundamental field of the universe and of what humanity needs, and then reveals the kind of effort necessary to to pull together devices so advanced as to change the world. This book serves as inspiration to inventor and layperson alike. He saw not only past his own time, but ours as well.

best

Through this autobiography, the missing pieces other biographies about him leave fit together perfectly. I get it, I get him in mind and spirit
