Publisher's summary

A delightful novel about surprising friendships, community, and the way small acts of kindness can change a life, from the best-selling author of The Story of Arthur Truluv.

Lucille Howard is getting on in years, but she stays busy. Thanks to the inspiration of her dearly departed friend Arthur Truluv, she has begun to teach baking classes, sharing the secrets to her delicious classic Southern yellow cake, the perfect pinwheel cookies, and other sweet essentials.

Her classes have become so popular that she's hired Iris, a new resident of Mason, Missouri, as an assistant. Iris doesn't know how to bake, but she needs to keep her mind off a big decision she sorely regrets.

When a new family moves in next door and tragedy strikes, Lucille begins to look out for Lincoln, their son. Lincoln's parents aren't the only ones in town facing hard choices and uncertain futures. In these difficult times, the residents of Mason come together and find the true power of community - just when they need it the most.

A heartwarming novel that reminds us that the people we come to love are often the ones we don't expect.

I prefer historical fiction or memiors.

IT ,was ok,. after I got used to her style and narration.
Amost All characters were very nice.
No graphic sexual details.
Nice descriptions of scenery, sun sets
and relationships.
I loved that "sunsets pull down the night." her discription of bird calls, and love of baking and that she liked to make people feel better and happy!

Comforting, sweet story

Disclaimer: I love Elizabeth Berg’s stories—even when they’re predictable and cliche. She often expresses feeling and thoughts that I’ve experienced along my journey. That being said, this book was similar to a Hallmark movie. If you don’t like sweetness and comfort, this may not be your cup of tea. But it is my cup of tea & I’d have tea with Elizabeth Berg any day of the week.

Every turn in our lives tells a beautiful story. Elizabeth Berg made me believe in my story. It is full of excitement even on the most ordinary day.

I love her voice. I feel as if I were a child again being read an exciting fairy tale.

Follow up to Arthur Truluv

I enjoyed Arthur Truluv and was hoping to see what happened with Maddie, Lucille and Nola. This book basically follows Lucille. There are some answers found here from book 1 but it comes in pretty late. I liked this book, but not sure I would recommend it highly.

Kept in the Library of My Heart

Elizabeth Berg has played a significant role in my life during the time I have escaped into her books and long after they are read. She is an expert wordsmith and storyteller who brings her works to life narrating her own books. I challenge anyone, who enjoys well developed characters fashioned around circumstances that can transport them to surprising places and times and that will stay with them after the story ends, to read any of her works without wanting to read more. This sequel to The Story of Arthur Truluv was spectacular in every way!

Good book - ho-hum narration

I wish authors would not think just because they can write a good story/book, they can read aloud well. I like Elizabeth Berg's writing and have read most of her books - this was another good one. But I do NOT like her as a narrator. There is something in her voice that I find irritating. Also, she is a bit boring - lacks emotion or inflection.

The characters are good and their growth and change interesting. The progression of the events is nice, with just enough twists and turns to keep you wanting to know what they are going to do next.

SpoilerAlert: I loved the email exchange between Iris and her ex-husband. Very thoughtful and touching.
