The first book in his highly anticipated Riyria Chronicles series of prequels, The Crown Tower brings together warrior Hadrian Blackwater with thieving assassin Royce Melborn. The two form a less-than-friendly pairing, but the quest before them has a rare prize indeed, and if they can breach the supposedly impregnable walls of the Crown Tower, their names will be legend.

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Story
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Thirty years ago, cynical sleaze ball director Tito Bronze took a tiny cast and crew to a desolate island. His goal: to exploit the local tribes, spray some guts around, cash in on the gore-spattered 80s Italian cannibal craze. But the pissed-off spirits of the island had other ideas. And before long, guts were squirting behind the scenes, as well.

He is, as all men know, a thief, a liar, an occasional murderer, an outrageous braggart, and a man devoid of even the slightest hint of honor. Yet of all the men in the world, it is Althalus, unrepentant rogue and scoundrel, who will become the champion of humanity in its desperate struggle against the forces of an ancient god determined to return the universe to nothingness.

2 graphic stories in one sitting
I already had the first story in this set but picked it up for the 2nd story. The two go hand in hand and are amazing. The author has created a world where magic has come from the shadows and is now mixed in with us. Vamps, rotters, ghouls, shifters, and more. Be aware this is not for the young or the weak. The story has some serious adult concepts which prevented me from listening with my kids. But it is well worth the wait to listen to on my own. The story is amazing and I can't wait for more in this warped and twisted world. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Great New View on Horror Stories
I loved these books. They have an entirely new way of looking at the old school horror stories that everyone grew up hearing about. I love Terry West's view on all the older tales brought to the future. It was nice hearing Bryan Anderson and Sonia Anderson reading the stories, but I'm weird about hearing my male and female parts and there was just something missing for me and that's why the performance got a 4. Aside from that it was still really great to listen to and I loved the stories. They were so different from any others that I have listened to and made me really interested in finding more of Mr. West's works.

Any additional comments?
These stories were okay, but not my type. The story has some graphic parts and I just couldn't get into it. I had a hard time getting through the stories with both narrators. They were boring and I could tell they were just reading the words. They didn't bring much to the story.I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Not bad, but not for me.
I received this title as a gift, and as thanks I am leaving my honest review. This book was well written and well narrated, but just wasn't my cup of tea. I can see where others might enjoy it, and I can't really say anything bad about the story. It was filled with action, plenty of monsters and gore, but, as I said, just not for me.

The story is good but...
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. I don't think I'd recommend this to friends to read. While the story was interesting and intriguing, the performances were stilted and you could tell that they were reading from the book. It didn't flow like telling a story should and in some places, it was really wooden. There's also the fact that the porn described could get pretty graphic and it was a little gross. There really wasn't a need for the author to go into the kinds of details they did. I have no problems with graphic sex scenes but when you're describing a zombie gang-bang...it was a little too much.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked Johnny Stucke, Frankenstein's Monster, because even though he's a monster, even though he's doing all these horrible things, he's actually looking out for people. He doesn't care if the monsters die but he cares if humans die and he has a soft spot for orphans. I also liked Gary Hack, though he wasn't a nice guy either. He was such a broken character that you felt bad for him and wished that he could turn his life around.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Bryan L. Anderson and Sonia Anderson ?
Most likely not, at least not without getting to listen to some of it first. I don't know if it was their performance or the story but they're narrating came across very stilted and wooden. They were reading a story, not telling it and it's easy to hear the difference.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
As this is technically three books in one, you really can't listen to it all in one sitting. You can listen to each section (book) in one sitting (they're not very long) but if you tried to listen to all of it at once, you'd get slightly lost. Mostly because the books are in published order (I believe) rather than chronological order. It would've been better if they were in chronological order since the last book is what takes place first and it would add to the story if you could listen to them from where Johnny and Gary meet to the fight with Dracula and then the aftermath of that.
Any additional comments?
I did like most of the story, though there were parts I could've skipped. This is definitely a story you want to listen to with headphones on since it does get graphic. If you like the idea of monsters living in our modern world then you might want to give it a try just be forwarned about the graphic nature (not just sex but also deaths and drug use) and that the performances aren't very good.

2 good stories 1 mediocre
Any additional comments?
Thought the first story Frankenstein vs. Dracula was really good. 2nd story was decent, 3rd story was lacking. The narration (Bryan Anderson) is very over enunciated, could partly be due to the authors disdain for contractions. This made the story choppy and gave it a sterile sound at times. Sonia Anderson was was much better, she did most of the second story.
Warning: there are some graphic death scenes and monster porn ( I crap you not) These stories are not for the young and while I was not overly offended, it did seem unnecessarily over the top. These are gritty stories with no real good guys, just less bad at times.

I was given this book by the author for an honest appraisal. I really liked the story but the story telling was awful. All the characters sounded like they were reading from a script. The accents were poorly mimicked. Would have been much better with experienced readers.

Monsters Monsters Everywhere
This book sounds like a graphic comic book. It consists of different stories, but they are not in chronological order. This makes it a little disjointed. Many of the main characters appear in most of the stories. They pop-up in a segment after they died in in the previous story.
The stories are graphic (monster porn snuff films, really?). I never connected with any of the players. If you like your monsters raw, this book might be for you. It was not my cup of tea.
The narration was good, not overly dramatic.

Horror meets urban fantasy
I liked these stories, and I really adored the variety of monsters along with the details and back stories provided for them. However, it was honestly a struggle to listen to Bryan L. Anderson narration, which is for the first half of this book. His narration is average at it’s very best, and made it difficult to truly enjoy the stories. Sonia Anderson narrates the other half of the book, and her performance is way better! She did a great job making the stories lively. All in all, this is a fun collection that lovers of urban fantasy will enjoy.
