Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen Book Reviews). Now Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.

An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from a stalker. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the furthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get him, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s stalker is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Great series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Of course, this is my one of my top favorite series. Ive read them all and they have been consistently a great read.

What other book might you compare Night Broken to and why?

Another series by Allyson James, The Storm Walker series is very similar in the strength of the main character .

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

I also follow Lorelei King as narrator. I am amazed that she can perform Mercy Thompson very convincingly and then she can also perform male voices just as well and can also make several male voices different and distinctive from each other. She helps to make this book even better not that the story itself lacks in anyway.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I could not put it down until finished.

Beware the Exes!

First Thought when Finished: Beware the exes! Night Broken by Patricia Briggs proves that even Mercy has to deal with the pesky things.

Read It File It Review: Night Broken wasn't my favorite in the series but I still listened to it pretty much in two days flat. There is something about Mercy Thompson's world that is oddly relaxing (not for the characters but me) and I can always count on some kick ass action. This time there was a pesky ex (Adam's) and a whole lot of "weird" stalker stuff going on (of the ex). Overall enjoyable!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Lorelei King / Length: 10 hrs and 5 mins

Lorelei King is one of the best in the business. She nails Mercy and crew. If you aren't listening to these on audio then you are missing out.

Final Thoughts: The countdown to the next one has begun.

Love, love, love this series!

Would you consider the audio edition of Night Broken to be better than the print version?

I mostly listen to books while I am busy with things in my life, so actually reading a book is not something I have the luxury to do these days.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course, I love Mercy and her hunky husband is just great, too!

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has just the RIGHT vocals for the series and her Mercy voice is perfect for the character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It just made me go through it at high speed because I love all the story lines in this series.

Any additional comments?

I can never stand waiting for the next book in the series. I hope the author continues the series for many years to come! This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE series!

An Ex & Wife in the same house, never good!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would if they are already a Mercy Thompson series reader. Its late in the series to pick this one up and start reading.

What did you like best about this story?

It was a good advancement of the story. I always had a feeling Christy was going to try something like this. She's a rotten brat.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the book as a whole

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Night Broken works fine

Any additional comments?

A good addition to the series. Waiting for the next one.

The best Mercy novel so far

What did you love best about Night Broken?

Patricia Briggs writing has improved over time such that book elements; the ex-wife plot device were unlikely, but so very clever; exciting and fun and made the book pop. This book was great fun and moved fast. Sorry to see this one end. This story made me want to start over on book 1 to enjoy the story from the beginning.

What did you like best about this story?

Liked the way old elements from past books were weaved into this story to achieve a great deal more "ah hah!" impact and story built intensity. Did a lot in punching the story up. Frankly the prior appearances of coyote, the Fae and the walking stick were never that impressive before the way it was done in book 8. Now it is done here with such impact it makes it come together significantly with book #8.

My new favorite in the series!

Any additional comments?

Love, love, love it! Just the right mix of action and adventure with plot twists and delightfully complex relationships. Having Adam's ex-wife move in with Adam and Mercy was a riot! Not a spoiler, because this is how the book starts. Lorelei King brings the story to life--her sarcasm is perfectl All the fight scenes were fantastic as well. I hope Patricia Briggs hurries up with Book 9. I am so looking forward to a continuation of the story of my favorite heroine and her alpha mate pack leader. Highly recommend!
