Publisher's summary

FBI agent Cookie James is enjoying her extended leave from the agency on Secret Seal Isle, managing her quaint inn, and flirting with the oh-so sexy-handyman, Dylan Creed . . . until her 60-year-old mother goes skinny dipping and is almost drowned by a corpse.

A phone call to the sheriff should mean the end of Cookie’s involvement, but when it’s clear the sheriff has no interest in the investigation, Cookie calls in reinforcements - her ex-partner Hunter O’Neil.

Suddenly it’s like old times while the pair questions the residents of Secret Seal Isle. Except it’s not. Now she has both Hunter and Dylan vying for her attention, a wayward hippy mother, and a potential killer on the loose. With her love life heating up, her mother lighting up, and all signs pointing to the most unlikely suspect, Cookie does the only thing she knows to do - focus on solving the case.

Cute, but predictable

For a first book in a series this isn’t bad. The characters are likeable and the story is fairly entertaining. But, it also lost my attention quite a bit along the way. And the ending was predictable. I will definitely listen to a couple more in the series to see if they get better.

Great Book!

This is a great book; this is the first book in the Secret Seal Isle Mystery series written by Lucy Quinn and narrated by Traci Odom. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. The narrator did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

A New Corpse in Town

I just listened to the audio, the best way to reread. It was a whole new experience with the good narration of the different characters and just the right touch of Mane Accents.

Most women would be happy with one hot guy after her--not Cookie. She has two, count them, one a very handy handyman, and two, a hot, dark FBI ex-partner. She and her mom came to the little hideaway island to hide away from some bad guys after her. She sure didn't expect her first week as proprietor of a little bed and breakfast to include a dead body in the water behind her inn.

The practically nonexistent police force of one ignores the situation calling it an accident without even investigating. What can she do but call in her former partner, Hunter? Hot and has always wanted her, he shows up and they partner again. Question is, how much partnering will they do?

Just before Hunter showed up, she and her handyman, Dylan, were contemplating how handy they'd like to be. Now, what? Both men are scorching hot, great guys, and not at all happy the other one is in the picture.

It has a good mystery, lots of sexual tension, some great humor and memorable characters. What more could you want? As for me, I'd like more of Ms. Quinn's work. Can't wait for another book and audio.

Great narration of a fun story

This is such a fun cozy mystery. It has fun, quirky, and interesting characters . I've read the series, and it was really fun revisiting how it all started through a great narrated version. Traci Odom did a great job bringing ex-FBI agent Cookie James to life, as well as voicing the various other characters on the tiny Maine island-Secret Seal Isle. She carries each character's voice throughtout the whole book. I love Rain- Cookie's hippie mother, Hunter- her ex- partner, and Dylan- the island handyman. Lucy Quinn has created the perfect cast/setting/storyline for a light and fun series.

OMG I love this

Ok not the normal genre I read but wow. This was fun.
Cookies James us an FBI agent on extended leave . She runs a small Inn called the secret seal Isle with her mom and has a hot handy man around. Things get crazy when her hippy mom Finds a dead body. Cookie has to call in her old partner in the FBI to investigate when the local cops don't plan to do anything.
I love the mystery on this well written and funny story. There are awesome characters that catch your interest and lots of humor to make it light.
As I said not my normal read but I found I love it and want to read more in the series. If your into mystery with a mix or humor this is your book. I am now addicted to this series
It was great just sitting back and hearing this story unfold.

Too Many Men

I liked the characters a lot. Cookie's mom, Rayne was a hoot. My kind of parental influence, now that I'm a grown up. The narrator did a fantastic job. She made the two men's voices she was performing sound very different. They were easy to differentiate. I got a bit bored with the inner conflict on which guy to go for, but I had chosen who I felt Cookie should go for, as soon as I was introduced to both of them. As per usual, good story, fun characters and an interesting mystery.

Laugh your sox off!

The FBI agent is hiding out from the mob with a new name, a new job running a small inn on an island in Maine, and her unrepentant hippie mother making her nutz. Then a body washes up on the shore in at the back of the inn but the lackluster deputy just blows it off as an accident with no evidence or interest. So she gets in touch with the hottie who is her former partner who speeds to the rescue looking all Men In Black taking charge and the sparks begin to fly, especially as she had been getting friendly with her contractor.
Lots of laughs over the antics of the mom who has absolutely no filters. This is a fun book, not a police procedural.
Traci Odom manages to accomplish the narration without totally cracking up!

Would you consider the audio edition of New Corpse in Town to be better than the print version?

The audible version always different then book because the narrator always spin characters with personality and make book come to life better. She out on the island to get away from . dangers her job had brought to her life and family, When a dead man float up near her inn, with chases and lot of who did it on small island, Time solve who real killer is.

I always love listen to book it bring it to life this one my favorite narrators

save your money

wow, where to start, this book is bad in so many ways. the story line was so simple you would think it was written for young teenagers. a murder mystry it was not. four interviews and the murder was solved. no suprises or plot twist. i would say that 75% of the book was dedicated to relationships, it had to be because the murder plot couldent fill up anymore of the book. don't get me started on the narrators bad attempt at a New England accent. she did just fine on most of the book but the accent was a bomb.
