Publisher's summary

In this emotionally charged and inspiring novel about a love triangle, secrets between best friends threaten to blow up friendships and a marriage - and change lives forever.

When Miriam's fireman husband, Chauncey, dies while rescuing students from a school fire, Miriam feels like her life is over. How is she going to raise her three children all by herself? How will she survive without the love of her life? Luckily, Miriam's sister-friend Emily and Emily's husband, Jamal, are there to comfort her. Jamal and Chauncey grew up together and were best friends; Jamal and Emily know they will do all they can to support Miriam through her grief. Jamal steps in and helps Miriam with the funeral arrangements and with her children, plus he gives her hope that she has a future. But all the time that they spend together - grieving, sharing, and reminiscing - brings the two closer in ways they never planned...

Perfect title, but I would say NEVER

This very well written story helps you explore the old cliche’, Never say Never. It’s about friendships, that bud from college and families develop and the entire families become so close it is similar to one big happy family. Then life steps lines get crossed, feelings get hurt and friendships get tested.

Great story, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would refer it to fellow readers with enthusiasm.

Amazing and Emotional

I really enjoyed this duel narration. I actually felt connected more to Miriam for the first half of the book and then more to Emily as the story moved forward. Emily seemed a bit like a push over at first, but I really grew to like her and respect her strength as the narrative unfolded. Even my boyfriend got caught up in the story - I was playing it on the stereo while fixing dinner one night.... This was a great listen with really noteworthy performances by both narrators. I got teary-eyed at times! The characterization of the six year old, Latonya!? And both women did a great job with the male voices and other characters. Powerful.

Very Entertaining

The book was good. You find yourself really trying to put yourself in Miriam's shoes and there were many times I couldn't understand her decision, and found myself yelling at the story as Miriam puts herself in inappropriate situations. However, the author did a good job of character development. We get to see why a woman like Miriam would make the decisions she made. This made the story interesting, and compelling.

Never or maybe

This story is assume. The characters were so well described I could actually see them in my minds eye. The story flowed from begging to end. At one point you judged Miriam as a shameless
Backstabbing bitch then the lines blurred. I raged with M and agreed dump the weak a$$ son*%% and slap the hell of demon bestie Miriam. But the story goes on and now I 'm wondering what part love, loss and depression level grief played. What would I do?
This is a excellent book worth checking out.

First Time Reading A Book by This Author

This story developed really well, but the main character Miriam is delusional. I understand her being in pain and I even get how she and Jamal started an affair. After things blow up though, I don't see how she was thinking she and Jamal could be a couple.

Good book but ...

This was a good book. The story line was great. But it was long winded. I think I would've enjoyed it better it were two books instead of one long one.

As much as I didn't want to like it.. I loved it!

I just couldn't understand Miriam's thought process, but I have also never experienced that kind of grief. At times I would shut off the book, because what she was doing to her best friend was not right. But I had to know what happened. This book was well written and the narrators were excellent.

A bit of a snoozefest...ok read...not enough 4 me.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. It took me about 2 months to get through it. It got really boring at times. Dont get me wrong the story is ok, but its too calm & the characters actions and reactions didnt seem genuine to me. Either they were always in a zenlike state or high....but the ppl I know dont handle situations like these this calmly. I was screaming for them to take action!!! lol Its a book! Let the DRAMA be DRAMAFUL!!!! lol

What do you think your next listen will be?

After this...Im craving drama! Im going back to my Urban Fiction for a book or 2 lol

Which scene was your favorite?

The flashbacks to how Emily & Jamal met. The college years.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Actual romance! Could've had the characters show more love for each other! Give me a reason to care!

Any additional comments?

Dont be afraid to go there! The characters dont have to react all out ghetto....but its okay for them to be angry in these situations!! Give them emotional depth!
