Publisher's summary

Sometimes your past catches up with you. But John Milton has decided to catch up with his past.

Eighteen years ago, on a mission in Iraq, Captain John Milton made a reckless decision with serious consequences. But it was Major Connor Gordon who really paid the price.

Now Milton is on a different mission: to atone for his past sins by helping those in need. A human rights activist has vanished without a trace and his dying mother is desperate to know the truth. When the mysterious disappearance leads Milton all the way to the Western Isles of Scotland, he sees an opportunity to find his old friend Connor and finally make amends. Milton is determined to track both men down, wherever his search may lead.

From Okinawa to the Outer Hebrides, Milton is about to take a journey into a cutthroat world of bribery and corruption where his strength and resolve will be tested to its limits. He may no longer be the man he was in Iraq. But can he keep his cool when it really counts?

A fine addition to the collection

I've read/listened to every John Milton novel (as well as the others about Beatrix/Group 15) and it is good to know that Mr. Dawson can continue churning out quality stories. It took me a little bit before the disparate plot-lines started to come together, but once they did, it was a fun and exciting ride. I even found myself consulting google maps as I was reading to get a sense of the geography of the west coast of Scotland. I enjoyed the references to earlier stories and, of course, the tease for the next novel has me looking forward to the next installation.

This series isn't a prestige spy series, but it's always entertaining and it never gets old rooting for ol' John Milton.

Keeps getting better...

Sometimes the long winded series end up getting stale. Not the case for John Milton. I have listened to all of John Milton's adventures. This one takes its place in my top 3. My Thorpe is excellent as usual and Mark Dawson managed to keep the series fresh, exciting and consistent. These books are also stand alone. You dont have to listen to first 18 to figure out the evolution of the character. But I proimse if you listen to one, that wont be the end of it.
I can harley wait for book 20. :)
