Publisher's Summary

A retired man loses his wife to cancer and his daughter to a mysterious accident. He mostly lives alone, occasionally taking care of his grandson. When he sees a black van drive over a young woman before disappearing into the dark of night, he loses what little faith he has in humanity and discovers a sense of vengeful purpose.

Now he’s in danger of losing himself to long-repressed demons and a terrifyingly bizarre world that has always surrounded him, a world he’s spent his entire life keeping at a distance.

Not your typical revenge story

When I first started listening to this, I thought "it's an atypical revenge story". But, as the story progressed, I realized it was more a character study into a man's descent into madness. Vile and gruesome, this is far from a "feel good" tale. I am reminded of the old proverb: "Before you begin a journey of revenge, dig two graves". Well, this tale is a perfect example of that proverb in action. I recommend it to people who like their revenge tales with a twisted twist.

Brutal and funny with plenty of the Prunty wit

“Worst hug, ever.”

Revenge is a dish best served fried crisp like a thick slice of mystery-meat, garbage loaf. It’s the only way either becomes palatable.

Brutal and funny in parts with splashes of bizarro weird and the trademark Prunty wit sprinkled over the top.

Nice!

"Black as Midnight, Black as Pitch"

The quote from Legend says it all: this is one dark journey through grief, revenge, and madness. Prunty's storytelling thrives in this bleak landscape as he follows one father's quest to punish his daughter's killer.

Narrator EB Addams does a great job of stripping away the emotion from his characters' voices, leaving them as cold as Mr. Freeze in the classic Batman animated series. If you're in the mood for a dark tale, give this one a listen.

I AM GOING TO FUCK YOUR DOG!

awesome book! this is easily the best thing I have listened to or read from this author. beautifully written in an almost cringe noir style but not quite, just a little weird, but not bizarro, very dark in parts and funny in other parts. also, I really just love revenge tales!
