Publisher's summary

He hates everything about her.
She despises him even more.
So why is his heart so determined to belong to her?

Once trapped by marriage to a woman he loathed, Fitzwilliam Darcy is finally free again. Resentful, bewildered, and angry, he is eager to begin his life over - preferably with a woman who is the exact opposite of his wife.

He never imagined a short stay in Hertfordshire would bring him face to face with his worst nightmare; a woman similar in face, form, and name. He certainly never expected her to be so impossible to ignore.

Torn between what he believes he wants and what his heart cannot live without, his dignity begins to unravel. Will his desperation to escape his past drive a wedge into his closest friendship and destroy any hope of a future?

Will Miss Elizabeth Bennet prove to be as nefarious as his wife? Or, will the last woman in the world be his only chance at happiness?

Excellent

I adore Harry Frost as a narrator!!! He contributed so much to my enjoyment of this story! He gets 10 stars out of 5!

4.5 rounded up to a 5 for the story. This book was such a delight! I love stories from Darcy's perspective, but this one is very fun and unique. Instead of the reserved, but impeccably mannered Mr. Darcy, we get the raw and embittered Darcy who has had enough of the rewards of living up to society's dictates and expectations. He has always let his overdeveloped sense of honor and duty govern his choices and it has brought him nothing but trouble and grief, more than even he realizes when we begin this journey with him. Those choices led him into a miserable marriage and highly undesirable in-laws where he never even pretended to grieve or regret the loss of his wife, Elizabeth Benedict. What's in a name?- in this story, quite a bit as his very reaction to a different, but similarly named Elizabeth is all based on his former nemesis of a wife and he sure does make a mess of things! I found myself laughing out loud at many of his unguarded thoughts, comments and behavior and cringing for him at other times. I really enjoyed seeing his development start from a very different place and the change process that he goes through. Just when you think things can't get any worse, there's a new twist that will have you on pins and needles. The satisfaction of a HEA did finally come, and it was really worth the wait! A must read for Darcy fans!!!

Forgot to review

I forgot to review this when I listened but I remember I really enjoyed it! The story was a new premise on a very popular genre and the dialog was memorable - even months later! One of my favorite of Nicole Clarkston's books

Interesting twist to the Pride and Prejudice story

I love Pride and Prejudice and also love many of the variations of this classic story. This variation is a new approach. Darcy's wife has died. He despised her because she was so evil. Now he does not want to be involved with anyone woman except a simple good person. While visiting Bingley at Netherfield Darcy meets Jane and Elizabeth Bennett. He wants Jane because she is beautiful, quite and sweet. He takes an instant dislike of Elizabeth He seems to be terrified of her and thinks about her constantly, but not in a good way. The relationship between Darcy, Elizabeth, and the other familiar characters grow and change throughout this book. I took off one star because the financial and business relationship that is at the root of Darcy's newest problems is just too complicated and much of the last part of the book is very depressing. This book was somewhat too long, but ended too quickly. However, it still is entertaining and held my interest.

Loved it!

This was an excellent variation. The story was unique and kept me on my toes. Harry Frost's narration blew me away; he's perfectly captured Darcy, and I didn't want it to end.

Easy to recommend!

Voice actor Harry Frost really shines, showing his range and imagination. His rich voice and excellent pacing made for the perfect Mr Darcy! He is an enthusiastic narrator, bringing a nuanced, honest performance to each character. His audio production is flawless—no annoying clicking or mouth sounds, no echoey recording to detract from the performance or story.

Easy to recommend this clever, emotive, and even funny “Pride & Prejudice” reimagining from Darcy’s POV. Yes, Darcy is a little more frustratingly flawed than in some other fan fiction but don’t worry—that just adds to the delicious happily-ever-after that we know MUST come. Warning: Block out the time to listen to this one—because once you’ve started, you won’t be able to turn it off.

Angsty Darcy as he learns to love against his will

I loved this variation, perhaps my favorite. I like the ones that detail Darcy's journey from early withstanding to love, and give Elizabeth the wit that makes her more than just a pair of fine eyes. And the narrator is PERFECT for voicing Darcy's inner thoughts! I could listen to this Darcy all day.

Loved it

The story was unique. Most enjoyable, especially Darcy with all his anger and anguish. The narrator was the absolute best. I'm sure I will listen again to this entertaining

audible book in the very near future.

A good companion in quarantine

Interesting take on the P&P. And surprisingly from Darcy's POV. Good quality narration. Very peaceful to listen to.
