Publisher's summary

Three years after losing his father in a fire, 13-year-old Jethro Black (his friends call him Jet) finds himself embarking upon a mysterious adventure when, while attending his grandfather's funeral, a strange man walks up and gives him an envelope and a key.

As a mystery begins to unfold, Jet and his best friend Travis are about to discover that there is more to the world than meets the eye, and they just may have a crucial role to play in the outcome of humanity's future.

Nebulous is the first release in the young adult science fiction book series, Jet Black.

Warning. This book series will take you on an adventurous ride through the world of Jet Black. Here you will inevitably find various religious and spiritual undertones woven into the story. Some of these are subtle, some are not. Others are hidden as clues to a larger picture. While some readers may value these as hidden treasures, others may choose to see them differently. If you are easily offended by religious and/or spiritual content, I suggest you turn back now. If however, you are not afraid of such things, by all means... Proceed at your own risk.

Quality story and narration

This is a young adult science fiction story that is full of imaginative plot, likable characters, and a good pace that keeps the reader engaged. From mysterious artifacts, missing children, teleportation, techy gadgets from another world, and a good dose of humor, this book entertains from beginning to end.

Interesting story, quick listen

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Milo. He's the presumed crazy old scientist who is, of course, one of the few people who actually knows what's going on. He seems like he has a few good stories to tell.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene is split in two parts - first where Jet stands up to the school bully, but then the follow-up to that incident which happens shortly afterward (without giving any spoilers) where Jet uses the advanced technology at his disposal to change their relationship for good.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the story line though I feel the book would have benefited by a few more rounds of editing. I enjoyed listening to the audio version; Ray Greenley has a pleasant reading voice and helped to bring the story alive for me.

This is your classic coming-of-age store where, after a death in the family, our protagonist is bequeathed a piece of advanced technology that sets the stage for the rest of the book.

We follow our hero, along with a few secondary characters, through some interesting escapades, and learn more about the origin of the technology, along with what the story's antagonists are up to. We are left with a little bit of a cliff hanger at the end which presumably will lead into the next book and next set of adventures.

This was an interesting read, and at first I thought I might have my 9-year-old son listen to it, but it does touch on a couple of darker topics such as domestic abuse, drug use, forced medications on children, and child abductions that I don't feel I'm ready to expose him to just yet.

Book 2?

The story and everything else is great but the ending sucked left me hanging with no part 2 to find.

Good Story for younger kids

Not a bad story. Definitely for younger kids. Maybe elementary or middle. Worth the read, but not what I'm looking for.

Loved this book!

This book is a family oriented / Young adult read. With a clean story into sci if/ fantasy meets the adventure /mystery!

Jet (Jethro) Black received a mysterious letter from his grandfather after he passed away. Jet had already lost his dad previously too. Together with his friends help, Jet finds all the clues he needs to discover what is happening. Also there has been a rash of missing children too. Could these missing kids be tied in with his new discoveries? This book reminds me of Indiana Jones. Lots of adventure, danger and suspense along with just the right kids to be nosy enough to figure it all out.

The author, TS Littlefield did a great job writing this story. The plot is fantastic and the story turned out to be way better than I thought it would be. I even cried a little when it came to the missing kids! The narrator, Ray Greenley delivered this story to us flawlessly with lots of different voices and even accents! This book would make a great family trip story for those long rides!

A Great story for a wide age range.

Where does Nebulous rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have listened to quite a few audiobooks in a wide range of genres, so comparing Nebulous to all of the books I've listened to would be like comparing apples and oranges. However, as far as young adult adventure/mysteries are concerned, on a scale from 1 to 10, I would have to give it about an 8.5

What did you like best about this story?

The unfolding mysteries and the backstory, along with how the characters interacted in a very human way. What can I say? It was just fun from start to finish.

What about Ray Greenley’s performance did you like?

Some narrators tend to drone on a bit from time to time. some have a hard time nailing down a specific voice for each character. Ray Greenley had no such problems. His delivery was energetic and versatile. He kept the story alive and moving along right to the end making this book very easy to listen to, and hard to turn off.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Time constraints and a busy schedule make it difficult for me to listen to any novel in just one session, but I found myself listening for longer than I had planned each time, mostly because I just had to know what happened next.

Any additional comments?

This book would be an excellent companion for those long trips. My kids and I will be listening to Nebulous on the way to Disneyland this summer!

A great listen and interesting story

If you could sum up Nebulous in three words, what would they be?

Has great potential

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nebulous?

I like how the author delves into some of the lore and backstory,

What about Ray Greenley’s performance did you like?

Ray's narration was fantastic. His multitude of voices kept the story fun and interesting. I was able to discern the different character's voices as well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The budding relationship between Milo and Mitch.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to this story. I listened to it while at work and the way this book was narrated, it was easy to keep the characters and plot straight in my head even while focusing on other tasks. I am looking forward to seeing where the author takes the plot.

"Awkward Young Adult Story"

If you could sum up Nebulous in three words, what would they be?

Maybe better reading

If you’ve listened to books by T. S. Littlefield before, how does this one compare?

This is my first book by the author

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I found the narration awkward. It is read in a consistent pace which can come across as as mechanical and not a performance. The voices of the narrator while consistent, were what I would call mocking, the way I would mock someones voice to make fun of them in a story I was telling to friends. Creating voices based off of real people for dialect, tone, etc. would have made for a good performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I found myself forcing myself to listen to it. If I was just reading it, it may be different.

Any additional comments?

Nebulous just seemed awkward to me. I could not tell if it was the writing of the book or the narration. The dialog and concerns of the characters just seemed off and strained, and the narrators style matched the story. What I like best was wanting to have a mystery to solve like in the book.

I would listen to the book from a library, but I would be disappointed if I bought it
