A good guide for alternatives

It was a good quick book giving guidance on alternatives to traditional medicine. I can't wait to try some different herd combinations and introduce healthy routines within our family life.

just buy the whole health food store!

Terrible book, no specific advice. She basically recommends the majority of the items in the health food store and states they may work for some people but not everyone, you will have to experiment. she also says ADD and ADHA about a thousand times incase you forgot what topic the book was about.

Skip it

Not learning anything, the narrator mispronounced neurological terms, and there were mistakes that weren’t edited out. The narrator repeated herself early on, the editor should’ve caught that.

I am sorry....

I am not one to usually offer a negative review. However, sadly I must do this today. The information provided in this book is very vague, an overview really, more like a pamphlet to allow you to go on to do your own research. If you are hoping for some solid information on treating ADD naturally there are lots of other resources out there that would be more comprehensive. I would not recommend this book.

Researched my .....

Let’s start with “cause of ADD is unknown.” A two minute google search leads me to WebMD:

“What Goes On in the Brain

Studies show that brain chemicals, called neurotransmitters, don’t work the same in children and adults with ADHD. There also tend to be differences in the way nerve pathways work.

Certain parts of the brain may be less active or smaller in children with ADHD than those without the disorder.

The brain chemical dopamine may also play a role. It carries signals between nerves in the brain and is linked to movement, sleep, mood, attention, and learning.”

#2
“Alternative treatments don’t have side effects.” That is the most moronic, dim-witted thing I have ever heard! Many of our modern day, traditional and recognized medicinals have ROOTS in the alternative market. Further, you are at greater risk for side effects because the alternative market IS HELD TO NO STANDARDS OR FEDERAL REGULATIONS! Who knows what your getting when you by from the health food store!

The whole book is NOT rubbish, there’s a nice overview of the recommended alternative medicinals. BUT your doctor is not trying to swindle you with those stimulants! Stimulants have been around for a long time; grandma and grandpa probably gave junior a cup of coffee before school....back in the day. If you are a responder to stimulants, congratulations, the world is your oyster!!! And those nasty stimulants are ACTUALLY PRETTY BENIGN!

Would you send your def child to school without hearing aides? No! Would you send your visually impaired child to school without glasses? No, you wouldn’t! So please don’t send your ADHD child to school without his/her brain! Stimulants, or otherwise, just DO TREAT THEM! I wasn’t diagnosed until medical school, oh how I suffered...
