Publisher's summary

Everything moved to the winds' rhythm.

In one week, a house and marriage violently disintegrate. Alone raising an infant in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Julie is surrounded by the rubble of her life - stripped bare by love and loss. Suddenly a single mother, Freed's prose captures the love and adoration for her daughter, the indomitable spirit of her New England family and her father's unwavering devotion. Touching ties survive even the most powerful surge Mother Nature delivers. This debut memoir candidly reveals intimate details of one woman's shattered dreams as well as humanity's resilience and sweet goodness. Unflinchingly honest, Naked is a remarkable true story of hope, family, and love in a southern coastal Mississippi town.

Great listen and my very first audio book!

Would you consider the audio edition of Naked to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed listening to this book and just recently won a copy from the author, Julie Freed! This was the first book I've listened too and enjoyed it a lot. I get quite sleepy sometimes reading a print version and with this I just sat back and listened.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Besides the protagonist of course, I liked Jim. Jim was there when Julie needed him most. Her family was too, but I like getting to know other characters involved in what was experienced.

What does Julie Freed bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her own voice, it was so inspiring to know she recorded this herself! She really sat down to tell me her story!

If you could give Naked a new subtitle, what would it be?

Stripped
Leveled (disasters like hurricanes and divorces have a way of leveling the playing field.)
I think NAKED was appropriate

Any additional comments?

Great "listen", try it! Now I'm going to stick with it because I like the flavor of audio when I get lazy and just want to listen. Time for a new book, I have a free one! Thanks for writing NAKED Julie ~

Emotional story with flat monotone narration

This is the true story of PhD mathmatician and mother Julie, her unstable unfaithful and alcoholic spouse, and daughter Genoa during the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. It packs an emotional punch you wont soon forget.

For audible listeners however, you may not enjoy the authors flat, monotone, unemotional voice as she reads her manuscript aloud. Hearing her describe raw painful and personal experiences in a flat voice without changes in pitch, inflection or volume takes away from the experience for the reader. Had a vocal actor performed the manuscript, I believe the listener would have been wrapped up in the drama of Julie's world. Do yourself a favor and buy a printed copy, for this is a story not to be missed.

could taste the salted air

Great writing but sad story with a victorious ending. related to this story and the emotional toll loss by nature or nurture brings. I could taste the salted air and deep feeling of loss throughout. pure sucess in getting an emotional response from me..
