A tantalizing tale of a legendary knight and a headstrong lady whose daring quest for a mysterious crystal will draw them into a whirlwind of treachery–and desire.

When the fearsome knight called Hugh the Relentless swept into Lingwood Manor like a storm, everyone cowered–except Lady Alice. Sharp-tongued and unrepentant, the flame haired beauty believed Sir Hugh was not someone to dread but the answer to her dreams. She knew he had come for the dazzling green crystal, knew he would be displeased to find that it was no longer in her possession. Yet Alice had a proposition for the dark and forbidding knight: In return for a dowry that would free Alice and her brother from their uncle's grasp, she would lend her powers of detection to his warrior's skills and together they would recover his treasured stone. But even as Hugh accepted her terms, he added a condition of his own: Lady Alice must agree to a temporary betrothal–one that would soon draw her deep into Hugh's great stone fortress, and into a battle that could threaten their lives...and their only chance at love.©1995 Amanda Quick; (P)1995 Bantam Doubleday Dell Audio Publishing, Bantam Doubleday Dell Audio Publishing, A Division of Random House, Inc.

I really dislike abridged audiobooks but I didn’t notice until too late. I also dislike the reader who used almost the exact same voice for all the characters using Received Pronunciation rather than a more appropriate form of English. As a result of the abridgment, action whips from one bitter facedown to the next. Although I love Amanda Quick, I do not recommend this novel nor anything read by this reader.

Not the best effort Amanda Quick ever made.

I liked the book but was also disapointed that it was abridged. I love Amanda Quick so I really could have listened to more of this book.

Not unabridged.

I liked the narrator's voice. The music fit the era the story, it helped with the image of the characters and places. I really like the historical stories best....they are a fun escape!
Enjoy😉

Loved it..as usual👍

I AM A HUGH AND LOYAL FAN OF ALL AMANDA QUICK'S BOOKS, BUT NOT OF MANY OF HER AUDIOBOOKS SIMPLY BECAUSE SHE OFTEN USES FLOSNICK AS A NARRATOR AND EVEN THOUGH I HAVE TRIED TO GET THROUGH HER NARRATIVES BECAUSE I AM FOND OF THE BOOK, BUT, NO NOT HAPPENIN!. IF YOU ARE A QUICK FAN AS I AM AND FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT FLOSNICK THEN GET THE QUICK AUDIO'S , SUCH AS THIS ONE WHERE SHE USES OTHER NARRATORS. I HAVE THEM ALL AND THEY ARE VERY,VERY GOOD.

VT. FAN

Not a bad tale, just a bit trite for my tastes. Somewhat typical of the author's earlier writings.

The island is special, as is it's Lady
