Been a fan of Baldacci ever since his break out novel in the mid nineties, Absolute Power. Every new author’s dream, a best selling break out novel made into a movie produced by, directed by, and starring Clint Eastwood. Yikes. I should only dream. Anyway …. back to Zero Day. This is the first of the series of books created by Baldacci surrounding the exploits of John Puller. Puller, a U S Army Secret Agent, is dispatched to a small town in the south to investigate the mysterious death of a military man and his entire family. Predictably, Puller winds up partnering with a sexy deputy sheriff with a chip on her shoulder that quickly dissolves as she softens toward Puller and they begin working together to solve what is ultimately a serious threat involving national security. There is considerable commonality to Lee Child's character, Jack Reacher. A loner, get things done tough guy. There are a few interesting twists and a surprise ending. Well narrated by Ron McLarty and Oraigh Cassidy, male reading male voices, female reading female characters - nice first for me. There is very smooth dialogue transition throughout the book between the two leads, and the narrators do a terrific job.

Captivating

It was interesting to listen to another John Puller series. A master story teller. Keeps you engaged to the end

I was totally engaged from the first chapter.

Unfortunately I listened to the third book in this series first (The Escape ). That didn't take away from the excitement or suspense of this story but the background this book provides would have been welcomed as I listened to The Escape.
That being said, I really enjoyed Zero Day, on to the second book. ...The Forgotten

Good story. Hated the sound effects and music.

The story was very good and kept me wrapped up in it but I was not a fan of the music and sound affects in the background. At a few points the sound affects were so loud I could barely make out the words and if you make the bad decision of using sound effects in a book don't just loop the same affect over and over! Everything else was great, both the narrators did a good job.

Great characters, great story line. Thank you for using a female voice for the female characters.

The subject matter was indeed frightening and the murder of the children gruesome. Love Puller and everything else. Thank you for the stories.

why put music in this?

good story, music distracting, not necessary. narrators have narrow range. hard to differ the characters

Good book, always enjoy Baldacci books. Not always believable but written to keep your interest for sure
