I can not seem to put it down!

Where does Winterkill rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a good story. To begin with I did not think that I would be a fan of CJ Box, but I really enjoy his Joe Pickett series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Winterkill?

The explosion of the compound and the death of little April.

Which character – as performed by David Chandler – was your favorite?

Nate Rama..... I enjoyed his characterization. I hope we see or hear from Nate again.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both.

Any additional comments?

Joe appears to be a good guy who tries to do the right thing regardless of the outcome. Very, very, very few people live life this way.

CYA

Joe Pritchard game warden, husband, and father steps out to do his job and law enforcements job in his corner of the world. Along the way he deals with a lot of good guys that are truly bad, and a lot of bad Guys that are not at all as bad as the good guys say the are.
A great story about honor and doing what you say you are going to do

Love these Joe Pickett books

I really love this series, and I hope they bring back Nate Romanoffski, because the narrator really nailed this voice, but his Melinda Strickland was pretty darn good. I can't say enough about the narration and writing. The combination is spot on. Try at least three, you'll be hooked.

Sad but justice done.

It was reviting. Felt that Melinda got her true justice. No else will hurt.

C.J. Does It Again

Joe Pickett is a great character and he gives us a honest look of a America few know in States with fewer residents than most big American cities. This is another great ride.

Caricatures Galore

What would have made Winterkill better?

There are too many character caricatures. I listen to books a great deal. I know that in most fiction you have to suspend some belief. But here you have the protagonist, a game warden, appearing to be the only non-"Barney Fife" enforcement officer in his part of the state.

I've also never seen so many negative images of women in one story line. I'm not sure why every woman including his mother-in-law, primary antagonist, her newswoman, the mother of the foster child, had to be such poor examples.

Then there are the local sheriffs who can't seem to capture anyone while the protagonist gets them all, even though he is not really supposed to be more than an enforcer of game laws. And in spite of the fact that he is constantly being shot at and attacked.

Has Winterkill turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I love to read many of the series that are available on Audible; Reacher, Longmire, Spenser, Bosch, etc. Not to mention the many other fiction and non-fiction books available.

What about David Chandler’s performance did you like?

I thought he did a nice job.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Winterkill?

Good question, but there are too many plot holes and idiosyncrasies to come up with a good answer.

Any additional comments?

Not really. I had recently returned another book in this series and was just trying to see if that was just a fluke. Unfortunately it was not. Doesn't mean there are others who love it. It just lacked credibility for me, even with a suspension of belief.

Great Book Even Better Narration

I love CJ Box, and David Chandler is an excellent narrator. Loved it and am going to listen to every book in the series.

A Government-Hating Survivalists Group

This is one of those stories that left me feeling empty. I can't declare that I enjoyed the story nor can I declare that I hated it. The characters are realistically drawn and the story was fitting to the circumstances. However, after finishing the story, I felt that something was missing, or incomplete. Or maybe the story was just not my cup of tea. I've listened to and liked other CJ Box stories but this one fell flat for me.
