Publisher's Summary

Tampa, Florida, 1955: a city pulsing with Sicilian and Cuban gangsters, cigar factories, sweet rum, and violence. The bludgeoning death of retired kingpin Charlie Wall shocks the city and sends cops and reporters and associates scrambling to discover the truth. When the old White Shadow ruled the city, plenty of his enemies tried, and failed, to kill him. Many are left wondering about the final hand of the old bootlegger and gambler.

As the trail winds through neighborhoods rich and poor, enmeshing the innocent and corrupt alike all the way down to the streets and casinos of Havana, an extraordinary story of revenge, honor, and greed emerges. For Charlie Wall had his secrets, and he guarded them well. And those secrets could destroy a criminal empire and ignite a revolution.

Critic Reviews

"White Shadow is classic Florida noir, a great crime novel set in the fabulously crime-ridden 50s." (Carl Hiaasen)

Great book- The true old gangster theme. The settings and characters are so vividly described. I feel as if I were right there in Florida and Havana.

Love the Details

Being a resident of the Tampa Bay area for over 30 years, I love the rich details about the area and the fascinating look at this big event in our area's history. This was not my favorite mystery but was still quite an enjoyable diversion. Several of my co-workers, who stil read the old-fashioned way, are planning to buy the book.

Where are we going with this?

Goes and goes and never gets anywhere. Plotless meandering. Wastes too much time on pointless tangents.

Gosh, I Wish This Had Started...

This book's like getting into a flashy car, turning the ignition… then turning the ignition… then… then… then…. WILL THE DAMNED STORY EVER START????? I finally left the car. Maybe someday I'll get back in. Probably not…

Boring and annoying

Hopefully astute Audible members will not waste their money on this awful novel. Full of dreary details and nondescript dialogue, it reads at a snail's pace and the narrator's personification of the characters is abysmally amateurish. Don't waste your time on this low-price download when there are plenty of good murder mysteries to enjoy.
