Publisher's summary

New York Times best seller

“A breathless read” (USA Today) featuring “some of the most ingenious military-techno twists this side of Tom Clancy” (San Francisco Chronicle).

David Elliot is about to have a very bad day at the office.

Each morning in his 45th floor executive suite, David savors the quiet moments before the workday begins. Until today, when his boss walks in and aims a gun at him, murder glinting in his eye. For the rest of the day, David will be trapped in a midtown tower with a team of ruthless and professional mercenaries.

Everyone he meets - and knows - will try to kill him. They expect him to be dead by lunchtime. But they’re wrong.

This is the “killer” workday redefined, a high-stakes and whiplash-paced drama that plays out with an electrifying intensity. You’ll never see the office the same way again.

Vertical Run

This is an exceptional tale with and exceptionally cast narrator. We listened to the UNABRIDGED version and after a ten hour road trip we were unable to get out of the car until the last word was spoken. We also listened to the abridged version and AUDIBLE should find and offer the complete recording as it is a story best told with all of the plot and character complexities. This is at the top of our" all time favorites". NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER AGE 14.

non stop action!

from nearly the first page this thriller moves at break neck speed and never let's up. the book is frantic and absorbing and you can feel yourself pulled along with the main character as he unravels the unknown. the majority of the book takes place in the course of one day with flashbacks to the main characters days as a young lieutenant in the Vietnam conflict. this book took me completely by surprise for a first time novelists work. loved every minute.

the narration was fair to above average but the chapter "notification music" was unnecessary and distracting to annoyance.

Read it... Don't listen to it

I read this book shortly after it came out and have very fond memories. Loved it. Noticed a couple of my favorite parts were missing. Apparently it had been abridged. Don't recall seeing that anywhere but it was mentioned in the credits at the very end. The music was weird and inserted in odd places. The narrating was mediocre at best. Do yourself a favor and go read this book but avoid it here.

The Standard for all future Thrillers

I doubt I will ever again find another novel that would so completely engross me so fulsomely from the first phrase to the final breath.

Perhaps it is the fact that Vertical Run was abridged for audio presentation; certainly it has much to do with the narrator Stephen Lange, who so nimbly brought the cast of characters to the story.

I have listened to Garber’s seminal work at least five times now and get as much excitement and adrenaline rush as I did the first.

I have recommended this audio book to all my friends and family and all have reported that they shared my enthusiasm for Vertical Run.

Thank you, Joseph Garber and thank YOU, Stephen Lange!

Good story

I enjoyed the story, but sometimes music would play loud enough to make it difficult to hear the reader.

The absolute BEST!

I've read and re-read Vertical Run many times and believe this is the FINEST audio book ever produced. Stephen Lang brings tension and dark humor to the novel that I find positively captivating.

Joseph Garber is a bit like Thomas Harris, in that he isn't a prolific writer. But his writing makes me want this story to continue (he left the door open for that possibility) and to read any future books.

I could not recommend this book more highly. A+++!

Just as I remembered, Excellent 5 stars!

I read this book at its release. Stephen Lang does masterful job with perfect dialects for each character making it a fun second partaking.
