Publisher's summary

An overworked sheriff and a string of condo burglaries at a luxurious ski resort have Lieutenant Joe Gunther and the newly minted Vermont Bureau of Investigation digging deep for clues. But it doesn't take long for Joe to find the most likely thief missing and his girlfriend dead.

As the complications mount, from drug dealing to environmental terrorism to attempted murder, Joe and his team go undercover to infiltrate the closed society of a one-company town, populated by bored millionaires and supported by a small legion of resort employees, not all of whom are what they seem.

Great winter escape.

Story captures the beauty and challenges of winter in the Northeast. Good twists and turns on the ski hill and in the plot.

Well done .... w/ one exception

No need to wax eloquent. Brilliant author, amazing narration. Just didn't like the limited use of expletives - not super creative, mostly limited to "Jesus," "Christ," and "God" - especially towards the end. The selection seemed so limited and specific that I wondered if the author had a personal bone to pick with the Almighty.

Murder in the Mountains

With his new group, the Vermont Bureau of Investigation still struggling for acceptance among law enforcement, Joe Gunther is called on to investigate a burglary in Tucker Peak. In his usual dogged investigative style, Joe digs in and ulitmately uncovers more than he bargained for. A decent listen as Taylorson does his usual fine job voicing Gunther in Mayor's first person presentation.

Joe Gunther does it again.

Tucker Peak was great! Started out with a very expensive stolen watch, soon its murder and more murder. We see Gunther and Sam go undercover here which was a fun addition to the story. Like seeing the ongoing character development that takes place from book to book, keeps me really connected with them and the series in general.

Great mystery in series

I enjoyed this book in the Joe Gunther series. Modern technology is finally catching up with the Vermont gang. I liked the setting for this one being the ski resort and mountains. We get more and more of the characters' personalities.

One of my Favorite Joe Gunther Stories

I would listen to almost anything that Tom Taylorson read, but there is a scene in this story where Joe has to try to rescue a little girl and her mom that is one of my favorites. I'm a big fan of both author and narrator. I haven't listened to the 3 or 4 Archer Mayor books read by someone else, though I did try. I finally went and bought the books so I could read them myself.

Joe Gunther Bk 12

I was new to Joe Gunther mysteries //Archer Mayor and began listening with book 1. I was captivated by the character building of all the individuals in the series. I almost feel like I know each of their doppelgangers in my own life. As I was saying I began with book 1 and became so entrenched in the Joe Gunther mysteries I binged listened to all 32 books with fascination, escape, and enjoyment. I love the less than perfect characters, the thought processes each character manipulates and how each struggle with mental demons (some more than others) that make them real and come to life. I am also really impressed that not one of Mr Mayor’s stories (of all 32 books) repeat themselves in story line which is a impressive feat. My only disappointment is the next book isn’t out until Sept 2022.
