Publisher's Summary

For Jack Reacher being invisible has become a habit. He spends his days digging swimming pools by hand and his nights as the bouncer in the local strip club in the Florida Keys. He doesn't want to be found.

But someone has sent a private detective to seek him out. Then Reacher finds the guy beaten to death with his fingertips sliced off.

It's time to head north and work out who is trying to find him and why.

Formulaic

Seems the author has developed a set formula and sticks too it just making the bad guys more bizarre. Probably my last Reacher novel

Very disappointing!

What would have made Tripwire better?

Cut out all the endless description of every movement, room etc that added nothing to the story or characters.
These days we all own calculators, so endelss calculations of how many seconds how many metres etc were just waffle put in to stretch a poorly developed plot to a never ending story.

I am a fan of all the Reacher stories, but this one was the exception - it was just plain boring.

The reader made things worse, he would be more suited to reading cook books for old ladies.

Why, why would ask anyone else but Jeff Harding to read Reacher ??????

What do you think your next listen will be?

Definitely nothing read by Mr Hagon, sorry mate look for something else to do.

Not many Reacher books left on here, but you can't go wrong with Jeff Harding, he makes bad writers sound good and good writers sound better!

How could the performance have been better?

A complete re-write.

What character would you cut from Tripwire?

None, I would turn it into a first person novel.

Utterly disappointing

Clichés & implausible sequences. Teenage romance comic meets cheap gun-slingin' Western. An insult. Time waster!

Jack Reacher.. Don't mess with this man

Would you listen to Tripwire again? Why?

Reacher novels have me hooked. I was not disappointed by this one and it kept me on the edge of my seat.

Really poor production spoilt story

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have to say that whilst we enjoy Jack Reacher stories (and will try another one) this was spoilt by the poor production quality. There was hardly a pause as the reader went from one story line to another making it confusing. There was a persistent hiss in the background and sound quality was poor. Couple this with a boring American drawl and you have poor production. And to cap it all off one of the story lines was left hanging by Lee Child. Damned annoying

What will your next listen be?

I'm listening to The snow flower and the secret fan at the moment.

Would you be willing to try another one of Garrick Hagon’s performances?

Certainly not

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Tripwire?

None, I'd just finish off what the hell happened to Chester Stone and his wife Maryline.

Any additional comments?

Grrr

Another Jack Reacher hit!

A good story, not as good as the killing floor, but better than die trying. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Great story awful recording

Great story but the worst recording ever. You have to listen to it in mono because in stereo the sound drifts from ear to ear but in a really bad way. High notes in one ear and low notes in the other like some fake mono to stereo conversion

Good Plot concept -but a fail as a novel.

Any additional comments?

This is my third book of the Jack Reacher series and i was disappointed. The author had an excellent concept - interesting characters, and an adequate narrator. However this book failed to live up to the caliber of the first books of the series. On several occasions, the reader is forced to plod through meaningless dribble. For example the scene that describes how the villain took of his clothes is just plain pointless. There are several other occasions that serve to add only to word count. I was also disappointed in the character development of Reacher. It just softened him up too much. (not physically, but mentally. )So will I try the next book in the series? Maybe, but not for a couple of months.

Jack Reacher - The Pantomime

Having read the first Jack Reacher book, and listened to the second (which was acceptable) I thought this was worth a try. Generally in the case of a series of books the story and characters improve with each one, this seems to be a break in that rule.

Once again Jack Reacher is the indestructible and charismatic Greek God you have come to know from the previous books, once again quickly finding a helpless (and very attractive) young woman to protect from the antagonist. The story just seemed very tired after a while, with bad guys invariably being so unpleasant and evil that it went beyond my ability to think them real. That said, the story is entertaining enough even though it is very predictable.

The narration however utterly spoils this. The narrator seems horrendously out of his depth, frequently confusing which of the characters he is voicing and occasionally forgetting to change his pitch when switching between Reacher and the female character. Moreover he has an embarrassing habit of making the main antagonist sound like a pantomime villain, which at times just really ruined the sense of tension that I think should have been building. The timing between characters speaking was far too hurried and without a skilful mastery of different voices (which this narrator lacks) it makes it very confusing as to which of the characters is actually speaking from one moment to then next.

Trip wire by LEe Child

This story grabbed my interest from the very beginning. A very good story giving an onsite into Reachers past as well as telling a really exciting tale.

Just couldn't get into this one.

Avid fan of Lee Child, but this one was just not as enjoyable for me as others, part of the story made me feel awkward tbh. Returned and got the next one, which I did enjoy.

The Best Reacher of them all

This is by far the best Reacher story. It ties together a lot of Reacher's past experiences. Also the love affair with Jodi Garber, the daughter of Reacher's former CO adds an extra dimension to the story. Full of action, suspense and with just a touch of romance. Lee Child's best effort and I have listened to the whole lot.

Storyline not as captivating as others in the series. Narrator uses accents for different characters but occasionally doesn't switch accent to match the speaking character- annoying / distracting.

Tripwire average

Disliked some of the brutality in the book. Plus the story got a bit boring, still isn't a bad read as you want to find out about the ending but wasn't as good as the first book Killing Floor I thought.

Good but not the best Reacher story

Good story and worth a go.

Not the most action packed Reacher story but still has good elements. The audiobook narrator just didn't seem to fit in my opinion either.
