Publisher's summary

Amateur sleuth and baker extraordinaire Corinna Chapman is upstaged when the hot new bread chain, Best Fresh Bread, opens just down the street from her own bakery, Earthly Delights. Meanwhile Daniel's tall, blonde and gorgeous old friend is staying with him while she establishes a base and a business in Melbourne.

When Daniel starts making excuses, Corinna begins to worry about his absences and also the strange outbreak of madness which seems to be centred on Lonsdale Street. Will Corinna win through a maze of health regulations, missing boyfriends, sinister strangers, fraudulent companies, and back alley ambushes? Or will this be the end for the Earthly Delights Bakery?

We loved it!

Kerry Greenwood and Louise Silversen brought everyone to life and transported us into the story. We breathed in the bakery and salivated over the bread. We visited and collaborated with the CHARACTERS in Insular, each being familiar to our hearts. The cops are beat cops we want on our street. The city is rich beyond measure with CHARACTERS from junkies, Tradies, Actresses, fools, Greek restaurateurs and even an actual pirate. And the cats. They are such welcome bright moments and are indeed cats we've known and loved over the years.

Enjoyed till near end then got a little lost

There seem to be a lot of plotlines in this story: 1) There's a new bakery nearby undercutting Corinna's prices; 2) Somebody is making cakes that is causing people to hallucinate and in some cases commit suicide; 3) There's a witch's meeting and a lot of new witches in town and there's a bad-news warlock named Barnabus who has a bunch of followers 4) A gorgeous stacked rich "old friend" of Daniel's is in town AND STAYING AT HIS PLACE and Corinna feels a bit threatened... 5) There's a saga of a sunken treasure...
I stayed with it all right up until the end - altho I didn't get why Meroe bit Barnabus -- it didn't seem to get rid of of discourage him -- maybe she should have bitten the ear right off. I also didn't see how the authorities could find any evidence to close up Corinna's shop.... They said they found something; they closed her; and then they said her shop was clean. But I lost the thread at the end. I was with it up to the final unmasking of the person behind it all. But when we got to Daniel's client I though tI knew who he was but was too beat to look back to verify. Too many characters for me to keep track of. Maybe if I'd read ALL the earlier books, more would be old friends and it would have been easier...
Good book and enoyable up until near the end when I got lost.

Looking forward to hearing more about Korina

Overall I greatly enjoyed the story. The author weaves a fantastic tale that seems crazy until you get to the very end and all the puzzle pieces fit together. The reader was enjoyable but I had a hard time with the voice of tge character of Merowi. At the very very end, the background music is so distracting that it's hard to focus on anything and hear what they're actually trying to tell you. Many people probably ignore these pages but I like to know about the author and where the stories come from.

Pronunciation counts.

Would you consider the audio edition of Trick or Treat to be better than the print version?

No. This is the worst of the recordings. (In a very relative way - it's still very very good.) Samhain is pronounced "SOW wen". And the narrator smacks and lisps excessively in this recording.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trick or Treat?

I'm awfully fond of Uncle Solly, even if he does smack when he talks.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator has too many of the characters "smacking" before they start talking. And the pronunciations of wiccan ceremonies are massively incorrect and irritating. She was trying too hard making "voices" for many characters. (smack smack smack. Sigh.)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed the hostage standoff. Very unlikely but wouldn't it be nice if things turned out this way?

Any additional comments?

Another classic Corinna story

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved the Freegans! Such a good concept for the book.

Any additional comments?

I loved this book as much as the previous in the series. The characters continue to develop (including the cats!) and I love that Corinna hates Christmas....or does she?

Meh.

This book was a lot longer than it needed to be. The story wasn’t bad per se, but it just took a long boring way to get there with little reward. There is a ton of food descriptions all the time, some witch stuff, lots of Nazi talk, and only a little Halloween with a small mystery. I expected it to be more murderish and spooky than it was. The narrator was great though.

Another great mystery!

Corinna and her friends are always fun to visit, and this instalment was no different! A little bit of magic, mystery, and history all rolled into one. Do yourself a Favor and pick this one up. As always the narrator Louise Siverson does a great job of bringing all the characters to life!

Fantastic!

Australia, poisons, war-booty, witches, friendship, greed, investigation

Another delightfully complex mystery with Corinna, Daniel, and the characters who live in the building known as Insula. The investigations are into people poisoned with what seems to be LSD, a megalomaniac who claims to be the King of Witches and a ceremony, unusual WW2 booty from Greece showing up locally in Australia, and a few other things. Addictive series!
Louise Siverson is absolutely fantastic in voice interpretation of the interesting characters!
