Publisher's Summary

Genghis Khan was the greatest conqueror of all time, who, at his peak, ruled an empire that stretched from the Pacific Ocean to the Caspian Sea. His conquests are the stuff of legend, his tomb a forgotten mystery. Until now.

When Dirk Pitt is nearly killed rescuing an oil survey team from a freak wave on Russia's Lake Baikal, it appears a simple act of nature. When the survey team is abducted and Pitt's research vessel is nearly sunk, however, it's obvious there's something more sinister involved. All trails lead to Mongolia, and a mysterious mogul who is conducting covert deals for supplying oil to the Chinese while wreaking havoc on global oil markets utilizing a secret technology. The Mongolian harbors a dream of restoring the conquests of his ancestors, and holds a dark secret about Genghis Khan that just might give him the wealth and power to make that dream come true.

From the frigid lakes of Siberia to the hot sands of the Gobi Desert, Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino find intrigue, adventure, and peril while collecting clues to the mysterious treasure of Xanadu. But first, they must keep the tycoon from murder - and the unleashing of a natural disaster of calamitous proportions.

Filled with breathtaking suspense and brilliant imagination, this novel is yet further proof that when it comes to adventure writing, nobody beats Clive Cussler.

Take another thrill ride with Dirk Pitt.

The best for last?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have listenerd to more than 25 of Clive Cussler's books read by Scott Brigg! This is one of the best! Don't know why I waited so long to download. Maybe it was the graphic of the novel? This one has so many twist and turns and sub-plots.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dirik Pitt always comes through in the end.....he's a novelistic superman!

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He helps you live the characters raw emotions.

A guilty pleasure, par excellence ...

Dirk may be getting a little long in the tooth, but he's still up for adventure. You can count on Dirk. He'll be okay. And you will have fun along the way ... a few shivers ... a few laughs ... and some ideas definitely worth thinking on. Another winner from an author (now authors) who has doesn't know how to write a boring book. And may he never learn.

Great!

I always enjoy Cussler's books. Lots of suspense, plenty of adventure, the science feels real, and the villains are crazy without being unbelievable. There's very little language and hardly any gore.
I also love the narrator. He does a great job. Lots of inflection and he doesn't trip over the often foreign names of people and places. I think he sounds just like James Garner, who used to co-star in a lot of Doris Day films.

Love Clive Cussler, Hate the narrator

I loved the book, but the narrator takes the book too seriously. Every other word is emphasized as if it is the most important word in the book and contains the key to the mystery of life. I forced my way through the book because the book is amazing, but I will read them in print from now on. Hated to give the overall just two stars but the narrator was just soooo bad.

Not what I expected

I love CC and, let's face it, if Scott Brick reads it, it is likely pretty decent. But I found this a bit hard to follow--a lot of skipping around geographically.
This isn't about Khan's treasure--really.
