Publisher's summary

In late 1926, the newly married Daisy Dalrymple and Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard take an ocean voyage to America for their honeymoon. Daisy and Alec are accompanied by Daisy's childhood friend, Phillip Petrie; his wife, Gloria; and Gloria's father, American millionaire industrialist Caleb P. Arbuckle, and all are looking forward to a pleasant, uneventful trip.

But at the last minute they are joined by Arbuckle's new friend, Yorkshire millionaire Jethro Gotobed, and his new wife, Wanda - a showgirl whom all but Gotobed are convinced is a gold digger of the worst sort. Then, having barely lifted anchor, the ocean liner is beset by a series of suspicious accidents and deaths. With harsh weather and rough seas putting many out of commission due to seasickness - including Alec - it soon falls to Daisy to figure out what connection there might be between the seemingly unrelated incidents. Convinced that there's a murderer aboard ship, Daisy must unmask the culprit or culprits before she or anyone else falls victim.

Enjoyable

This was a rather enjoyable book with some slightly different storylines and twists. It’s not Shakespeare, but is enjoyable for cleaning the house or driving the car, etc.

Alec and Daisy do it again.

Very enjoyable mystery. Because of reoccurring characters it was easier to keep track of characters/suspects. I enjoyed Lucy Rayner's narration but in a perfect world I'd like a more appealing voice for Alec. Well done.

Excellent storytelling and narration

Especially well done story in this enjoyable cozy mystery series with likable main characters. And just the right amount of suspense and action.

Excellent story, Indifferent narration

I LOVED this book. Carola Dunn did an excellent job - great plot, well developed characters and complementary story lines. One of the things I hated was the narration, parts of it. Specifically, the narrator's portrayal of some male characters. She had some of the ship's staff sounding like a female rather a male. It's not even a case of them sounding pubescent merely extremely feminine. Her portrayal of Alec Fletcher was ridiculous - a middle class policeman sounding impossibly snooty, and more upper crust than someone like Philip who is from the upper class. His portrayal was at variance with the character created by Dunn. I found him unlikeable and thoroughly deservingly of a longer period of sick leave. Then there is Daisy's voice, which was extremely squeaky and childlike which reduces Alec practically to the level of a pedophile when they are being romantic.

Overall, it's a fantastic book but the narrator just did not do it justice.

Best book yet!

I almost gave up on these books, but this one was somehow extremely thrilling in comparison to the others. Several different plots at once helped and great characters made this exciting!

Not my favorite

Finally Daisy and her detective inspector husband are on their honeymoon. Once they boarded the ship the murders start. I didn’t find anything mysterious in this story. I was distracted froM the story by the narrators “unique and annoying “interpretation of the many accents.

Never Disappoints!

Love these mysteries. They are cute, sometimes funny but clean.

Good stories to listen to at work.

Need a different narrator.

Narrator's interpretation of the voices is disappointing. Especially the high squeaky voice of the main character.

Not C. Dunn’s best but still enjoyable.

The story isn’t really very mysterious, however it’s just a joy to spend time with old friends, the Fletchers, and a cast of old and new characters. There are also a few editing errors which are uncharacteristic in this series.

What really makes me like the listen is Lucy Rayner’s performance. I’m sure the last reader is very talented but she just wasn’t right for this series and the characters therein. Rayner’s voice is very much like the narrator of the first books of the series and much more suitable. I’m so glad that the change was made and am very impressed with the vocal talents of L. Rayner.

Bravo 👏
