Publisher's summary

The lives of four very different women have been shaped - and battered - by one charming man…

Ireland's debonair politician Paddy de Courcy - the "John F. Kennedy Jr. of Dublin" - has captured tabloid headlines and the imagination of his country with his charm and charisma. But the crushed hearts he's left behind him reveal more about his character than his winning, vote-getting smile. Lola, Grace, Marnie, and Alicia have all suffered from his selfishness and cruelty. But with Paddy's political star ascending, the time is finally ripe for redemption…and perhaps a bit of revenge.

Another winner!

Where does This Charming Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This Charming Man ranks in the top 20 audiobooks I've listened to so far. Marion Keys always demands that her listeners internalize what they hear.

What was one of the most memorable moments of This Charming Man?

Lola's evolution from having no insight into her own behavior to an awareness of how her behavior affects her friends and others. Which can also be said of Grace and her sister.

Have you listened to any of Sile Bermingham’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not as far as I know at this moment.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions, but reaction to the twin sister's struggle through alcoholism. I am really enjoy the way Marion Keyes takes the reader along on this journey from misery to restoration.

Charming

I've loved Marian Keyes' writing for forever. This one takes on a dark subject with so much humour you don't realise the darkness has arrived until you face it head-to-head. You meet a group of disparate women with only one thing in common: They loved Paddy DeCourcy. Lola, a stylist with purple highlights (Molicino!), sisters Grace and Marnie, Alicia the widowed socialite Paddy chooses to propose to and a few others. All of them have encountered Paddy and all of them are scared by it. Dark subjects for a romantic comedy but the novel works. Loved it.

More serious than I'd expected

This is the story of four women... their ups and downs in life and love. I love a happy ending which I finally reached as I finished the book. But I'd also read more drama than I expected... more pain and upset. It had its moments of humor, but they were fairly scarce. It is most likely that I was looking for a light hearted, entertaining book that I gave it four stars for the story. It is a well written book with well developed characters. I'll try another book by this author and see if I find one a bit more light hearted.

Adore this book! Wonderful performance

Admittedly, I have read the paperback of this book twice already, so I already know and love the novel. Because I’m familiar, I wasn’t alarmed by the seemingly random violent bits of story tacked at the end of some chapters. I can understand, though, if you weren’t familiar with the book how those bits would be very confusing. Hopefully, it all makes sense to listeners in the end!
Sile Bermingham did a marvelous job narrating and made each character stand out with distinct voices. Would love to listen to more of her narrations!
Highly recommend this novel.

Amazing!!!

I absolutely loved this book! I was so sad when it was over. I just kept wishing there were more chapters. I loved how it switched back and forth between the characters and how they all tied together in the end! I originally started reading a hard copy but switched to the audible version and omg that made the story really come alive. The narrator was absolutely perfect!! Thank you for such an amazing story!

Time will just fly by...

Have read most of this authors books and always get a laugh even during tough topics. This doesn't disappoint, great inter winding stories and characters. Was not sure when I saw how long it was, but listened during work out and time flew by....

Interesting story but

I'm not really keen on abusive relationships but I'm not a fool to think they don't exist. Reliving my youth is not my favorite thing. It's even more difficult when you like the women and know they were strong.
The narration was hard at points because stories were injected in places and they didn't relate to what was just before or after.
Still there were things that were enjoyable.

worth it

A tiny bit hard to follow in audio format, but worth it. As usual, Keyes does a wonderful job of creating nuanced, fascinating, and relatable characters who face serious issues and life choices with wit and courage.
