Publisher's summary

For years Leo Waterman eked out a meager living as a PI in Seattle. He survived run-ins with murderers, drug dealers, and jealous wives, but when Rebecca, the love of his life, dumped him to marry someone else…that was a different story. After Leo’s trust fund finally kicks in, he takes his broken heart and slips gratefully into retirement — until the day he learns that Rebecca has vanished and no one, not even her overbearing mother, can locate her.

Together with his motley crew of homeless drunks and reprobates, Leo sets out to find Rebecca, following her twisted trail from the rain-swept streets of Seattle to the murky depths of the great North Woods. The stink of it all emanates from none other than Rebecca’s new husband, whose lies cast Leo into the path of a ruthless gang that will stop at nothing — not even murder — to protect what’s theirs.

Good hard-boiled

This was a pretty good yarn with some funny moments and situations. The added narration was very good.

Ford is Terrific

Another great book featuring Leo and the gang. Patrick Lawlor gives another great narration. Now if someone would get books 5 and 6 narrated by PL. I would be happy indeed.

It's good to see Leo Waterman back in action

Would you consider the audio edition of Thicker than Water to be better than the print version?

no

Who was your favorite character and why?

Leo is certainly the star, a unique character in detective fiction

Did Patrick Lawlor do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Patrick Lawlor did an adequate job, but I prefer Jeff Harding's reading of the Waterman novels. I don't think Lawlor is particularly good at finding characterisitc voices for the individual characters and they all sound very similar.

Any additional comments?

Yes - I am not a fan of this guided review system.

A fun listen

Although I have read two of his books in the distant past, I have never been a fan of G.M. Ford's detective/crime novels. Thicker Than Water is much better than I expected. It has a great mix of action, humor and suspense. Patrick Lawlor does a fine job of narration.

If you like Leo Waterman. . .

G. M. Ford's PI Leo Waterman is one of a kind. He's smart, stubborn, intuitive, and saunters through life to his own unique rhythm. His cohorts, also unique in the annals of sleuthdom, are charming and entertaining. As this is book 7, I would highly recommend reading the earlier books first if possible.

I can't fault Patrick Lawlor for his skill at narration. However, his voice is so wrong for Leo.

I enjoyed this book from G M Ford

I enjoyed this book from G M Ford. It was an entertaining story written in a lavish style not often seen today, with old fashioned expressions and lashings of humorous phrases and observations. The narrator could have been better but a top tier effort for my library for style and entertainment.
