Publisher's Summary

Severed body parts. A woman in shadows. These are the only clues. Someone has left a severed hand in the centre of Manchester, and the only clue Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel has to go on is CCTV footage of a woman in a long, black robe placing it carefully on the ground.

With a lengthy missing persons list and frantic families wondering if the body part could belong to their absent loved ones, she has plenty to deal with - and that's before a detached finger arrives for her in the post.

By the time a second hand is found and a local MP's wife goes missing, Jessica is left struggling to find out who the appendages belong to, how they are connected, and just what the mysterious woman in black has to do with it all.

Another great one in the series!

Any additional comments?

This was another great listen in the series of DC Jessica Daniel crime novels. Held my attention throughout and really well paced.

Been waiting for more Jessicca Daniel audiobooks to be released, these books are humorous, have great story lines and brilliantly read.

Good characters, well delivered by the narrator

I'm getting addicted to the series and whilst there are a few things that don't ring true - surely Jessica wouldn't get away with being a maverick on every case - the characters make up for it.
The narrator delivers the story well in exactly the right accent and tone.

Good but...

I really enjoyed this book but the ending wasn't as expected. It jumped quite a lot as if the author had got bored and wanted to end the book quickly. Having said that, I am glad that i purchases it and would recommend it.

Ok, but not as good as the previous book

A great storyline, nicely convoluted and with unexpected twists, enjoyable characters who are developing nicely, but spoilt slightly by the repeated justification or explanation of police procedures.
For me the plot was marred by an entirely unconvincing course of action by the main character, Jessica Daniel, towards the end of the book, after which I was no longer absorbed by the story and lost any empathy with her plight.
I'm having second thoughts about bothering with the next in the series.

Could not finish

No matter how much I tried, I couldn't get into it. Written like a school child's essay, it drove me nuts and I had to concede with six hours listening time yo go!

Another good read

I listened to the first Jessica Daniels novel and I was hooked. Didn't think this one was quite as good as first ones but really enjoyed it

Too similar to the other books in the series

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

After 3 books I've come to the end of the road with this series. The actual storytelling and build up is OK, but the wrap up of the whodunnit is over and done with so quickly it's actually quite trite and secondary to the first 3/4 of the book.

Any additional comments?

The series promised well but I'm moving on!
