Publisher's summary

Compared to such luminaries as #1 New York Times best-selling authors Brad Thor and Vince Flynn, Brad Taylor delivers edgy and adrenaline-drenched military thrillers. The Widow's Strike pits Taskforce operator Pike Logan and his partner Jennifer Cahill against a Chechen suicide bomber intent on releasing a deadly, genetically mutated virus. Traversing the globe to stop this catastrophe, the two soon discover there is a more dangerous enemy lurking in the shadows.

New release in this series on June 28, 2016

During recent years the Pike Logan-Jennifer Cahill series by Brad Taylor has become one of my favorites. The genre is espionage/action thriller. Brad Taylor is a very prolific author releasing novels at the rate of 2 annually. The Widow's Strike is a solid 5 star thriller. To get more info on the book read the publisher's summary. Book 10 in the series, Ghosts of War., will be released in 6 days. I really like the narration style on these novels. Rich Orlow narrates the first person Pike Logan parts and Henry Stozier narrates the third person parts. Both narrators are outstanding.

Terrible.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Fans of the Grey Man, maybe. The characters are flat as cardboard. No background or personalization whatsoever. I previously complained that Patricia Highsmith spent too much time in developing a character and what they were thinking. This is the other extreme: no character at all.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not at all. I didn't care a bit for the characters, therefore the plot was of no interest. If anything kept me on the edge of my seat it was wondering when I might learn something about the characters.

What about Henry Strozier and Rich Orlow ’s performance did you like?

Unlike others, the use of two different narrators, one for first-person and one for third-person, didn't bother me at all. They were adequate but didn't have anything interesting to work with.

Any additional comments?

I have worked my way through most books that I didn't care for, but a few, including this one, I just couldn't finish. I really didn't care what happened, so the slog wasn't work the effort. I quit and returned the book.

Pike vs the inner circle

Well done. Gets better with each pike and Jennifer adventure. Hits close to home with our COVID 19 situation. HA and RO are great though I prefer HA’s gravely voice, but RO is better with each reading. Story line was well developed as were the characters. Author’s pace and intrigue is enhanced by the two reader’s tones and infections. Looking forward to next story. I clearly recommend audible book, but have not read hard copies. Jeff lantz

2 narrators causes confusion

I enjoy this series but find it challenging to continue to listen to the story when it’s broken up with 2 very different voices. They aren’t distinct characters as they both read the same characters in different ways.

Getting even better

I'm really getting into this series. the writing gets better in every book. I don't think any character will ever replace Mitch Rapp as my favorite series but pike is definitely my number 2 now. can't wait to get through the rest of the series. thanks for the great stories with just enough side drama to make the stories keep going and feel so realistic.

Pike is insubordinate

Pike is such a hothead that it’s hard to like him. He seems to get pissed at everybody. His friends, hospital workers and list goes in and on. He is constantly ignoring orders from the president. He should be fired but Wait! He’s not even a government asset yet he leads a special Ops team? I’m giving up on this series.

Better Each Iteration

Ignore the haphazard narration, and you can begin to like the characters. The analogies remain tepid, and nonsensical "like a linebacker running into the end zone ". Pike and Jennifer's relationship remains unrealistic, but she is more engaged in the plot lines. Overall, better now than the previous works, interesting and entertaining. Immediately starting the next in the series.

Good story, good details, lacked something...

Good story, good details, lacked something. Unable to determine what was needed, but it held my interest.
