Publisher's summary

New York: Late at night, the rain pouring down, a well-dressed woman in her sixties stands in a doorway, a gun in her purse, waiting for a Senator to come home.

Washington, D.C.: The phone rings on the desk of Blake Johnson, head of the White House department known as The Basement. The President wants him now.

London: The Prime Minister sits thinking of Sean Dillon, the one-time terrorist, now his most effective, if not exactly trusted, operative. It'll have to be Dillon, he thinks. There's no one else.

Someone is killing off the members of a splinter group known as the Sons of Erin, normally not a cause for much concern, but the consequences are much greater than anyone realizes. For in these actions lie the seeds of disaster: the fall of two governments, the derailing of the Irish peace process. Dillon and Johnson must stop this unknown assassin, the heads of state agree, quickly, quietly, before all hell breaks loose...

But they may already be too late. For in the Manhattan night, the silver-haired woman smiles, adjusts her rain hat more snugly on her head, and steps out into the street. Four down, she thinks.

Three to go.

Bad reader!

Story is good as usual. I missed the reader from the other Sean Dillon books, this guy sounded awful.

Different reader

The story was good but change up of the book gave it the rating. This particular reader change the whole dynamic of my connection with the book. The accents and the ability to tell the difference between characters was a challenge throughout the book.

They are unable to do a good Irish accent also.

Higgins at his best

I thought it was great. very good storyline
with all the PM's private army, and the WH

poor reading...

I've been listening to Jack Higgins on audio since the 80's, on cassette. The master at reading these was the late Patrick MacNee, AKA John Steed on the original Avengers. He was amazing, but his audio books aren't available any more. Michael Paige on most of this series is good. This American is awful. The best that can be said for him is that he can be easily understood. Mispronunciations by the bushel, indicating poor preparation and equally poor production. Great story line. I've regretted purchasing this as I wade my way through the 20+ Dillon books. Hopefully this 'reader' won't be on any more of them.

fail on Irish

hated the change in the narrator. almost unbearable to hear him perform Sean Dillon. Took me 5 months and multiple attempts to find a different narrator, before I finally gave in and listened to him. Dick Hill can NOT do Irish accents.

Getting old

This book felt like another author ghost wrote, with subtle differences in phrases, attitude and behavior of the main characters. We all know what to expect, but the lack of suspense and disconnect with lack of strong English/Irish accents left this one falling short. I love Dick Hill, but Michael Page really brings Sean and Ferguson to life.

Loved all the character's in this book. Dillon is such a cold blooded killer but is somehow a very likable caracter. l plan on listening to the whole series.

Great addition to the Dillon Saga.

Another great book in the tradition of Sean Dillon kicking butt and taking names. I like the involvment of the Americans this time as well as the no nonsense of the Brigadier. Will Hannah ever completely forgive Dillon for his past?
