Publisher's summary

For bounty hunter Victor McCain, life is complicated. After losing his soul, he agreed to become the new Hand of God, God's bounty hunter on Earth. His job? Track down and kill the worst forms of evil Satan can dish out. But when an ancient threat resurfaces, soon the hunters become the hunted.

In this action-packed sequel to The Hand of God, Victor is closing in on his brother Mikey, who cost him his soul and stole the woman he loves. Soon he discovers his brother's "back up" plan: to unleash beings chained in the darkness from the early days of man in order to bring about the annihilation of the human race. With the help of fellow bounty hunter Winston Reynolds, computer geek Kurt Pervis, and the enigmatic Brother Joshua, Victor is ready to spring his trap and rescue the lovely Samantha when it all goes sideways. Now each member of his team is being targeted for elimination. The only question is, can they stay alive long enough to save the world?

A gripping Supernatural Thriller

After the death of God’s previous bounty hunter, Victor McCain has now become God’s new bounty hunter called the Hand of God. Victor is tasked with tracking down and killing all kinds of evil. Book 2 can be read/listened to without having read/listened to book 1. Author, Tony Acree works a lot of biblical references and research into his writing. The story is fast paced and intense. It’s the kind of book you will want to finish in one reading/listen. Afterward, you will want to pick up the other books in the series.

Finally, this audio book was provided by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an honest review courtesy of Audio Book Boom.

Great Paranormal Action Adventure

I was as entertained by book two of the "A Victor McCain Thriller" series as much as the first one. Life hasn't been easy for Victor McCain since becoming "The Hand of God", and it doesn't get any easier in this story. There were so many twists and turns. The action was almost non-stop. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Steve Rausch's narration was great, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Should have stopped at Book 1 in the series

I listened to the first book in the series The Hand of God and while it wasn't great it wasn't bad. The story line had promise, the characters seemed interesting so I downloaded this book, book 2 in the series as soon as I finished the first. I have found over the years that generally one of two things happen with the second book. The author tightens up the story and details and we see over all improvement, OR the author after having some success with the first book meanders into the second story line and their personal views start to dominate the story telling, and creative or linguistic short comings result in limited or simple descriptions. Unfortunately this book falls into the latter. For example, Mr. Acree's ability or lack their of to use descriptive terms for Samantha other than 'most beautiful'. Or the foray into God and Satan discussion gets a bit preachy. I made it to chapter 20, about 1/2 way through the book before I had had enough. It wasn't that it was awful, but I found I didn't want to listen. I could care less about the characters, the story or what happened. I found myself thinking I need to go find a different book or maybe I could re-listen to something I enjoyed until I have the time to find a new book. Sorry but I do not recommend this book.

Not a bad sequel!

Some parts fell a little flat, but overall the book held up quite well. Some very fun combat scenes, needed character development, and fast paced, just like everything I've come to expect from Tony Acree.

The Watchers

Any additional comments?

Entertaining and engaging but unusual and creepy. Very enjoyable supernatural thriller. The story pulls you in immediately and never lets go until the end. Full of action, suspense, mystery and much more. Definitely worth your time.

I did not read the first book in the series. Even though this is the second book in the series I had no problem at all following the story. Definitely can be read as a stand alone.

Interesting cast of characters. Yes, the story has a religious undertone, but it's not a preachy undertone, it's just the backdrop for the brother vs. brother/ good vs. evil setup of the story. One brother works for Satan, the other for God.

His brother Mikey is one of Satan's top lieutenants. Victor is the hand of god. As he says, He's kind of like God's bounty hunter. How's that for strained family relationship.

Steve Rausch did a really good job with the narration. This is the first time I have heard him narrate an audiobook. Nice voice. Easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken. Smooth even pace. Good character voices. He did a great job of bringing the characters and story to life. Very enjoyable.

Interesting concept

I don't usually get heavily and obvious religion-themed stories but the sample and the summary of this book intrigued me. I am happy that I received this book as a gift from the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. It is a great way to discover new authors and narrators and, with this book, I have discovered the talent of Steve Rausch. His performance of the variety of characters and their circumstances is very well done.

This second book can stand alone with its intense story line and characters, though I am curious about the beginning, the back story...I am going to get the first book in this series.
