Detective Isaac Bell returns, in the thrilling new adventure from the number-one New York Times best-selling author.
On the ocean liner Mauretania, two European scientists with a dramatic new invention are barely rescued from abduction by the Van Dorn Detective Agency's intrepid chief investigator, Isaac Bell. Unfortunately, they are not so lucky the second time. The thugs attack again - and this time, one of the scientists dies.
What are they holding that is so precious? Only something that will revolutionize business and popular culture - and perhaps something more. For war clouds are looming, and a ruthless espionage agent has spotted a priceless opportunity to give the Germans an edge. It is up to Isaac Bell to figure out who he is, what he is up to, and to stop him. But he may already be too late... and the future of the world may just hang in the balance.
love the isaac bell series! narrator is perfect pick. i always enjoy his character accents.
a bit slow and confusing in a few places compared to earlier ventures not as good
Clive Cussler never fails to present a great story full of action, adventure and history and Scott Brick always does an excellent job of bringing it to life.
I have enjoyed Clive Cussler books, especially the Issac Bell series. This does not dissapoint! Scott Brick is ny far my favorite narrator on Audible.
As always Clive Custler writes a good story. Perhaps for my liking a little slow at first, but still entertaining. Scott Breck is masterful with the characters. You will enjoy this book
This story is constantly moving, keeping the listener involved. But, be forewarned, you may find yourself losing sleep if you listen when you should be sleeping!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Great series, even better when all 8 were on sale and could be purchased all at once! If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes, then this is the American version of that period. Great listens, but you do have to concentrate in the 1st 10 chapters or you will miss the key elements that reveal the villain. This author is very clever in the development of the villains.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Thief?
Our secondary hero, Arthur in Berlin, doesn't want to train our little Frauline Pauline, but their scenes in this story will touch your heart. Author take note, and use Pauline in another book! When Pauline does enters the Paris office is a scene not to be missed.
What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is so great with all the characters which is why I purchased all 8 stories at once.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
You have to time it so you don't listen while trying to get one more scene in before slipping off to sleep. I had to go back and listen to about 4 different chapters as I was multi tasking, and missed some vital clues and information. This was my second listen, 1st was the Wrecker. A reviewer said these 2 were the best when he added the Assassin to the list.<br/>Both are excellent, but I will now start with book 1 as there maybe some on going characters which may have been developing as the series progressed.
Any additional comments?
You may want to try these on new 1.25x speed to get a fast action pace. Great!
I totally enjoy Isaac Bell stories as an easy read. Scott Brick I find to be an amazing narrator doing great justice to these fun mystery books.
Where does The Thief rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have enjoyed the whole Isaac Bell series so far. Each book has it's own issues, twists and turns. Lots of interesting detective work when they had to do the leg work and a sweet love story worked in.
Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?
Any additional comments?
Try this series, start with book one and you will not be disappointed. Easy listening, interesting bad guys, smart detective work and great outcome.
New Isaac Bell story line fit neatly into its historical context. Very enjoyable. Scott Brick is amazing.
