From New York Times best seller Angie Fox, the second book in the new Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries.

A haunted library is no place for a girl who can see ghosts, but when Verity Long stumbles on a dead body in the middle of the main reading room, she has to believe someone...even a dead someone...must have witnessed the crime. Her ghostly sidekick, Frankie, warns her to stay out of it. The very alive, very handsome deputy sheriff Ellis Wydell inadvertently places her directly in the middle of it. And her ex-fiancé, Ellis' brother, is back with an agenda of his own. Loved It!

I'm really surprised at how much I enjoy this series. The characters and plot are well-developed and realistic. The small town atmosphere and attitudes ring true and add to the humor of the story. I also enjoy the paranormal aspect of the book. Frankie provides lots of comic relief. He's one of my favorite characters in the book. I look forward to the next book.

Great to keep your mind off exercising

I like all of Angie Fox's books they're fun and I like the way the Tavia performs it. It becomes quite imaginable. Love to get lost in the story while I'm exercising.

Fun story, good pace, great characters

Where does The Skeleton in the Closet rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

There are complex plots, complex characters, and just fun books. This book was fun, not deep but I am glad I listened.

What other book might you compare The Skeleton in the Closet to and why?

Juliet Blackwell, "If Walls Could Talk" they are both light mystery/ romance. Just fun diversions while you work.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I seek out books by Tavia Gilbert. Tavia is why I bought this book, I was searching books that she performed.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, it is light. A feel good book and some laughs.

3.5 Stars

The Skeleton in the Closet is book 2 in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. This is a cozy mystery told in 1st person POV for main character Verity Long.

The series is about a woman named Verity who unknowingly cleans out a man named Frankie's ashes from an old vase looking jar into her rosebushes and it traps his ghost on her property allowing him to only leave when Verity takes his urn off the property. The ghost, Frankie, shows himself to her and so begins her ability to see ghosts.

In The Skeleton in the Closet, Verity and her sister, Melanie, find the body of a historical society volunteer at the library where Melanie works. Melanie and the dead girl (I can't remember her name now) were working late in preparation of the town's 150th Anniversary celebration of a Civil War battle that was fought there. After Melanie went home, dead girl found something scandalous that would shock the head families and the town overall and it looks like someone may have killed her to cover it up. With Verity and Melanie now suspects in dead girl's murder, Melanie does a little investigating of her own- the supernatural kind. There are twists and turns throughout and some good side stories intermixed.

I really enjoyed the historical aspect that these books have been giving since the ghosts we have met are not the newly deceased.

The thing that bothered me about this book is that it started to drag a bit for me when things were happening but no clues were being introduced. I would like to also try to solve the murder along with the characters but this was more of a just wait til it is revealed type thing. I did start to guess who it was and was right but the clues didn't come until closer to the end. Also, even though I automatically suspend believe for the purpose of fiction and fantasy, there are times where I just can't get on board and there was a point where two characters were injured and shot and carrying on like it was no big deal. Like you have actual bullets in you or through you and you are running around town. That is a tough sell. Oh and now that I am thinking about it, I would have preferred a bit more of a follow up to what happened after the truth was revealed. Jail time? For who? For how long? What were the charges?

I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed listening to it. The narrator really injects a lot of emotion into her reading and she really sells the suspense and fear. She did a really good job. Her voices were distinct and clear and her pronunciation was good. The audio editing was off in one place in chapter 13 where you could tell that it was pieced together and a word was partially cut off.

So far, I recommend this series. I think I might have found a new series to binge-listen.

GREAT CONTINUATION.

Excellent. The characters are so interesting all with their different quirks. Can't stand the ex-mother-in-law though. Frankie, of course in also a funny character! I love the relationship between Verity and Ellis.
Ellis has such a wonderful personality!! The mystery is awesome and it was right at the end that the truth came out. Very, very good plot. I love this series and am so glad I decided to try this out. Worth a credit. Bravo to Angie Fox and Tavis Gilbert for a winning combination.

Great development of the characters in the Series

I am really enjoying this little series and I especially like how much romance is actually second-hand to the stories as a whole. In Skeleton in the Closet, we learn a lot more about the characters we met in Southern Spirits and get to know the town Sugarland, Tennessee a little better.

Verity Long and Gangster-Ghost Frankie are back at it again to help solve a murder but this time Verity actually stumbles upon the body and the mystery. I really enjoy the fact the author does such a good job of giving the ghost characters as much life and detail as the living characters.

The murder in this story seems simple but the story does get complex and really grabs your attention. Listening to the ways Verity and Frankie try to untrap him from her property are very amusing but you still feel sympathy for the ghost and really hope he gains his freedom.

The only down side I have to the books is that the main character is almost too good and kind to the point of being almost unbelievable.

Sweet, Quirky and Southern Ghost Mystery!

What did you love best about The Skeleton in the Closet?

The first thing that came to mind was the Stookie Stackhouse series by Charlene Harris. If you enjoyed Sookie's crazy tales then you'll like this series. It's similar yet different enough to keep you entertained!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I love her gangster ghost Frankie. He allows her see what other ghosts see, and becomes her friend and guide. Even though he's sort of stuck with her and doesn't have much of a choice but to hang with her. I like that their situation turns into a light friendship.

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

oh she's great. her voice is perfect for this character!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no, not extreme but I am enjoying the book. it's fun and entertaining and i am plan to listen to the the remainder of the series at this point. that says something right? I've listened to 2 audios in less than 1 week.

Any additional comments?

if you liked the sookie stackhouse series then i think you'll like this book. There is a tiny bit of romance and the set up is really good. The main character Verity and her former fiancés brother Ellis have potential. There are enough kisses and lingering moments to know it's only going to get better. Add their tension to the mix of drama: Ellis' brother, mother, his family legacy and Verity skunk pet and you have a very fun story. Enjoy!

Fresh new paranormal mystery

I have read both of Angie Fox’s books and was delighted. Here is the run down: witty and fast pace. Dialogue realistic as can be in a paranormal mystery, well developed characters. Love Lucy the skunk. Little bit of romance possibly brewing; some interesting ghosts and a few twists and turns. No sex scenes, no cursing to speak of and no screw up by the narrator.
The narrator,Tavia Gilbert was brilliant. Her use of different voices with a little southern twang was beautifully executed. Reading was clear and pronouncing was great. If you like a fun, paranormal mystery with great narration I highly recommend both of Angie Fox’s books. Cannot wait for No. 3 in this series.

a Silly, but Amusing Story

This particular story was not really to my taste, but a amusing read. This will probably be a Wounderful story for others who love cozy mystery set with southern ladies and additude.
I did not like the Narrator voice, but she does a good job with the storyline.
