Publisher's Summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author John Grisham's newest legal thriller takes you inside a law firm that's on shaky ground.

Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

But maybe there's a way out. Maybe there's a way to escape their crushing debt, expose the bank and the scam, and make a few bucks in the process. But to do so, they would first have to quit school. And leaving law school a few short months before graduation would be completely crazy, right? Well, yes and no....

Pull up a stool, grab a cold one, and get ready to spend some time at The Rooster Bar.

Grisham's Lost His Edge

In all fairness, this review was based on an inadvertently purchased abridged version. I've had the error corrected and will listen to the unabridged version, which is the version that I thought I had. I'm hoping that I'll find the characters and story to be more fully developed and the writing less simplistic in style. I've been a John Grisham fan since he first appeared on the writing scene and have read and always looked forward to reading/listening to all of his novels. That's why this one was such a disappointment.

Did not realize this was abridged version!

I like the ease and excitement of Grisham's novels and I think I would like this one as well had I listened to the unabridged version. However, I didn't notice this was abridged and so the story felt very disjointed and incomplete to me. The performance felt a little forced at times. Overall the story is good and I can see its potential but I can't really go back to the unabridged version since I know the ending............

Entertaining but not one of Grisham's best works

Good read. I liked the abridged version as I've found sometimes Grisham novels have a bit too much filler. There were some key elements in the storyline that were somewhat unrealistic but nice to see Grisham get back to the legal genre which he does so well.

A far fetched stinker

What disappointed you about The Rooster Bar?

Epitome of the decline of Grisham's novels. Protagonists got away with very bad behavior which seemed unrealistic.

JG has done it again. I love this gem of a story. Great job JG can't wait for the next one.

They could've been a heck of a law firm

The ending was the most memorable. I hope it ended this way & it did. The narrator was very good. I'd give him an 8.5 out of 10. I'm off to my next Grisham novel. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Another great Grisham

Finally, a throughly entertaining novel that has been edited. Grisham cares about his readers more than his own indulgences. creative plot, real characters,
and writing that moves along in a fun clip.
