Publisher's summary

A small girl brings Joe Gunther a bird's nest - made partially of human hair. In the search to match a body - and an identity - to the hair's owner, Joe comes across an unexplained death, a grisly murder, and a sudden disappearance. All seem to be entangled in a puzzling web of municipal corruption, blackmail, and industrial espionage. A shell-shocked World War II veteran nicknamed the Ragman may hold the key to it all - but only if Joe can get him to talk before the murderer strikes again.

Another interesting story

I have become a real fan of Mayor and the way he builds his stories and expands their scope - the endings always seem a little abrupt but it’s a style that doesn’t diminish the story.

No one has ever overused “erstwhile” so often

Great story to unravel. Loved keeping up with it. The ending could have been a bit longer.

Very good

As always you find out the end at the end. I wish not so much profanity would be used. It does keep you hooked

Great mystery in series

This is one of the better books in the Joe Gunther series. Forensic technology and crime investigation are getting closer to modern days. It gives a great glimpse into the time period of the mid-nineties. Although fairly predictable, the plot is developed well.

What a Great story!

This story left you guessing all the way to the end! When you find out who the bad guys will be surprised! Joe always takes a beating and keeps going! It was Awesome as a Nurses Aide to patients with dementia to see a man with dementia helped piece it all together. Gail really helped out with this one as well. All the innocent lives that were lost due to these corrupt people is insane. You will really enjoy this one! One of my favorite so far in the Joe Gunther series
