Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Tosca Lee brings a modern twist to an ancient mystery surrounding the most notorious female serial killer of all time. A fast-paced thriller for fans of Lee's Books of Mortals series with Ted Dekker, Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, and BBC America's hit series Orphan Black.

Emily Jacobs is the descendant of a serial killer. Now she's become the hunted.

She's on a quest that will take her to the secret underground of Europe and the inner circles of three ancient orders - one determined to kill her, one devoted to keeping her alive, and one she must ultimately save.

Filled with adrenaline, romance, and reversals, The Progeny is the present-day saga of a 400-year-old war between the uncanny descendants of "Blood Countess" Elizabeth Bathory, the most prolific female serial killer of all time, and a secret society dedicated to erasing every one of her descendants. A story about the search for self amid centuries-old intrigues and Europe's underground scene...and one woman's mission to survive.

Amazing journey

One of the best books I've read in a long time. Absolutely gripping story where the characters and events completely jump out at you and make you feel as if you know them, and are on the streets and roads with them. I'm sure this would be the case in the regular book as well, but this narrator was just about the best one I've ever heard. Flawless presentation and seamless transition between the different characters speaking, regardless of them being male or female, American or European. Incredible work there. I can't recommend this book, and this audio version, enough. Cannot wait until May 2nd for Book 2!

Garbage

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I cant say one thing positive about this book. From is presentation to is premise it was just god awful. Returning this horrid work for a refund

What was most disappointing about Tosca Lee’s story?

The entire story and to think she will try to continue this series...ugh...

How could the performance have been better?

no way. it was a terrible story and the reader was awful as well

What character would you cut from The Progeny?

all of them.

Any additional comments?

There are plenty of other books fiction and non fiction on Elizabeth Bathory and this has to be the worst I have read.

Is there any escape from your true self?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A delicious narrative of history, suspense, paranoia, romance and trans-Atlantic chases.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Progeny?

The surreal ending left me stunned, speechless, and definitely wanting the sequel.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Therese Plummer captures the essence of the main character while also delivering a variety of foreign dialects. Luka's voice was my least favorite - though ;-(

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the sublte melting of the adamantine life conversations.

Great beginning...but then

Wow! The story had so much potential! The beginning was very exciting and enticing… But fell into absolute ridiculousness!

Fair warning - book ends in a cliff hanger

I wonder if I would have enjoyed this novel more if I had read - rather than listened to - it. The narrator's voice was pleasant and I might enjoy her in another setting. But in this novel, every single sentence spoken had an undercurrent of urgency to it - which was exhausting. I found myself wishing for the book to be over. Wanting to know how it ended, but struggling to finish. Then, to my utter disappointment, it ended in a cliff hanger. Personally, I prefer each book in a series to be able to stand on its own. At least then, I don't feel so cheated if I don't move on to other books in the series.

The premise of the story is interesting, but I don't know that I'll move on to book 2. I admit, however, that this is one of those times where I'm having difficulty determining if I didn't care for the book, or how it was narrated.

fantastic

this book has kept me on the edge all the way. A must read. I would stay in my car after I got home to listen. I only listen when I drive and usually have not much of a problem stopping. Can't wait for more
