Publisher's summary

'One of the most interesting detectives in crime fiction' THE TIMES
'Penny combines clever plotting with beautifully evocative descriptions' DAILY EXPRESS

There is more to solving a crime than following the clues.
Welcome to Chief Inspector Gamache's world of facts and feelings.

Hardly a day goes by when nine-year-old Laurent Lepage doesn't cry wolf. His boundless sense of adventure and vivid imagination mean he has a tendency to concoct stories so extraordinary and so far-fetched that no one can possibly believe him.

But when Laurent disappears, former Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is faced with the possibility that one of his tall tales might have been true.

So begins a frantic search for the boy and the truth. And what Gamache uncovers deep in the forest leads back to crimes of the past, betrayal and murder, with more sinister consequences than anyone could have possibly imagined . . .

Millions of fans worldwide.
One inimitable Chief Inspector Gamache.

Adam Sims is a wonderful narrator for these formidable books

I feel that Adam Sims is unfairly reviewed in previous books, i love his different voices and accents, he makes the characters come to life and give each there own identity with his unique style.
Thank you, i will listen each book to the end and enjoy your story telling Adam Sims.

Ruined by narrator!!!!!

What would have made The Nature of the Beast better?

The late Ralph Corsham WAS Armand Garmache and his readings of the books was masterful. It was such a change from the usual crime novel genre. This narrator is absurd! He cannot pronounce the French names - this is set in QUEBEC! But worse, he makes the story sound like any old crime fiction, reading passages breathlessly to induce tension and suspense - laughable. The magic is gone - I couldn't bear to listen to the end! I cant believe Audible (Louise Penny ???) chose such a dissimilar narrator!

The most shocking thing is that Ralph's readings have now all been displaced by this narrator's! Poor people who havent downloaded the previous versions. But I guess, the difference was too glaring - making the replacement of all readings of Louise Penny's Inspector Gramache books with narrator necessary.

Would you be willing to try another one of Adam Sims’s performances?

absolutely not

Any additional comments?
