Publisher's summary

Roger Ackroyd knew too much. He knew that the woman he loved had poisoned her brutal first husband. He suspected, also, that someone had been blackmailing her. Then, tragically, came the news that she had taken her own life with a drug overdose.

But the evening post brought Roger one last fatal scrap of information. Unfortunately, before he could finish reading the letter, he was stabbed to death.

My thoughts

Thanks to my late mother I became a fan of poirot. I saw the TV shows but I never read the books . I am starting to read the books now and I am enjoying them. I like the narrative and the story line. This is a great book.

Christie is Brilliant

Gotta love Agatha Christie! Poirot is one of the most brilliant and wonderful characters and this mystery quickly became one of my favorites. Christie is a genius and Hugh Fraser delivers the story wonderful.

well done narration

one of the finest mystery writers of all time.
wonderful characters and plot.
hard to turn it off, and of course the ending, what a writer.

Brilliant story and narrator

This was a pure delight to listen to! The plot and characters were entertaining and vivid. I will seek out more works from Ms. Christie and this wonderful narrator.

Masterpiece of mystery

What a treat to have Hugh Fraser get to assume the role (albeit narratively) of Poirot. He's excellent and even though I had already read it years ago I was swept up anew in the glorious climax of Poiriot springing his trap on the clueless murderer with an incredible dramatic buildup that holds well its power.

Great story BUT sad, creepy twist ending! Not for sensitive people!

Over all, this is an excellent story BUT prepare yourself to be sad and creeped out by the ending! IF YOU ARE EMOTIONALLY SENSITIVE TO BOOKS AND MOVIES, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR YOU!
This is DEFINITELY one of Agatha Christie’s creepier books! While it is very well-written and interesting (with fabulous narration by Hugh Frasier, as always!), the twist ending left me with a VERY sad, creepy, icky feeling that I’m finding quite difficult to shake!
In my humble opinion, the creepy “psycho-thriller” twist ending is second only to the one in Christie’s “Witness For The Prosecution”. (“Psycho-thriller” is in quotes because it’s not like a psycho thriller horror movie but it DEFINITELY has that element of turning the whole story on its head and it leaves one feeling SERIOUSLY creeped out and distrustful!) Very good story but beware of the ending! I am pretty sensitive to movies, books, shows, etc., and I STRONGLY advise anyone who is also sensitive to think twice before choosing this book! Thankfully, there are TONS more incredible Agatha Christie stories to choose from! Enjoy!

Great book!

I’ve read a few Agatha Christie books and I’m always pleased with them! This was my first time listening to one of her books instead of reading it and I found it enjoyable! I always love the explanations at the endings and putting all the pieces together. I’m actually proud to say I guessed this one right! However, it was just a lucky guess... I’d be lying if I said I figured out all the details myself. Great book!
