Publisher's summary

Crime and grime are everywhere, at least in Maggie Phillips' opinion. Deep in the throes of a New England winter, Maggie's still adjusting to her new role as confidential informant for the Hudson Police Department. When a suspicious fax is sent to one of her new clients, Maggie is sure she's unearthed a conspiracy. With no crime to investigate, however, the Hudson P.D. can do nothing-that is until a wealthy trophy wife disappears and the FBI is called in to the hunt.

On the home front, her twelve-year-old son is growing up way too fast, while her brother is back with a few surprises destined to wreak havoc on the household. To frost the whole crappy cake, her best friend's marriage is falling apart, which leaves Maggie worrying over her own. All of the family drama is put into perspective, however, when Maggie is arrested for kidnapping and blackmail.

Between economic woes and a now tarnished reputation, Maggie is in way over her head. Yet out of the ashes of frustration and failure, something great might emerge. If she survives the birthing process that is....

Enjoyable read!

This was my first Hart book - I wanted a lighter read and this fufilled that need to the tee. The narrator is great! I found myself giggling quite often. It is a mystery and some of it might have been a bit hard to swallow, but then again, it is fiction. I certainly enjoyed it!

Very fun second book

I enjoyed listening to all the situations Maggie manages to worm herself into.
Love Maggie and the supporting cast. Narration was great.
The only thing I didn’t like was the addition of the therapist. It triggered me.
Looking forward continuing the series.

Rising from the ashes

Maggie has once again found herself knee deep in trouble after being in the wrong place at the very wrong time. Will she be able to clear things up before it’s too late?

I found this to be another entertaining cozy mystery by Jennifer L. Hart. At times I wanted to shake Maggie and tell her to smarten up, but she stayed true to her character and she certainly has a way about her. I’m looking forward to listening to the next story.

There were a few minor issues with the audio, but nothing that I couldn’t move past. Overall Suzanne Cerrrta did a fine job with the narration.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

kept me on my toes

Great narration as usual. The storyline was well thought out but again used too many character i lost track towards the end.i love the authur and narrator but i can't keep track of so many D-list characters. reminded me of a Jane Austen novel in that sense.
