Publisher's summary

#1 WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER • An intelligent, lightning-paced thriller set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C., with surprises at every turn.

“Impossible to put down.... Another mind-blowing Robert Langdon story.” —The New York Times

Famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon answers an unexpected summons to appear at the U.S. Capitol Building. His plans are interrupted when a disturbing object—artfully encoded with five symbols—is discovered in the building. Langdon recognizes in the find an ancient invitation into a lost world of esoteric, potentially dangerous wisdom.

When his mentor Peter Solomon—a long-standing Mason and beloved philanthropist—is kidnapped, Langdon realizes that the only way to save Solomon is to accept the mystical invitation and plunge headlong into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and one inconceivable truth ... all under the watchful eye of Dan Brown's most terrifying villain to date.

Critic reviews

"[I]mpossible to put down....Mr. Brown was writing sensational visual scenarios long before his books became movie material. This time he again enlivens his story with amazing imagery....Thanks to him, picture postcards of the capital's most famous monuments will never be the same....In the end it is Mr. Brown's sweet optimism, even more than Langdon's sleuthing and explicating, that may amaze his readers most." ( The New York Times)
"Thrilling, entertaining....Robert Langdon goes for another roller-coaster ride - this time in a hunt for a Masonic treasure in Washington, D.C." ( Los Angeles Times)

Another winner for Dan Brown

Although a much shorter book than some of his other titles, a great read. The descriptions he provides make you feel like you are in the story, loved it.

Amazing!!

This is my third Dan Brown book, but my first with Audible. the narration of this book was amazing and I felt the intrigue and suspense along with the characters. I cannot wait to listen to the next text, as I'm hoping for the same feeling - that of not wanting to stop!!

A Great Mix of History, Philosophy and Faith!

The Lost Symbol is a good read with enormous potential for a GREAT historical mystery thriller to follow the previous movies, DiVinci Code and Angels and Demons. This time Dan Brown interweaves an investigative storyline tying obscure historical facts associated with our Nation and the Free Mason perspectives. Once again, I was reminded that the excitement is in the journey, as there are truly no endings, but only new beginnings of understanding. The underlying message of the book, far from controversial, has re-iterated a message that has historically permeated in many spiritual perceptions of Mans relationship to GOD for some time. Brown brings this message front and center to chip away at modern mainstream consciousness offering philosophical food for thought. I recommend this book if you enjoy a mix of history, philosophy and faith. -D

Fast Paced

This is the 4th or 5th book I have read of Dan Brown's. I have like them all. They are speedy and hard to put down. Lots of action and plenty of technology to keep me interested. I love the detail and knowledge he puts in his books. I hope to keep reading his books for years to come.

Good listen, until the end

My husband and I were facing an 18 hour car trip and needed a good book to keep us awake. This did just that, and kept us interested and engaged. However, once the mysteries started to unravel, I have to admit I was disappointed with how it all ended. But, it was still worth the time.

I have read the book I've listened to it on audio I don't know which is better. His stories are captivating and I yearn for more. I ran bookstores for 20 years Other than children's books his are the only ones that captivated me

Riveting

Loved it! It was the first fiction/fun book I've read in a long time. Some parts had me fooled, I picked up on others earlier than the author probably intended. One premise could've been developed more and didn't really convince me of the magnitude of the situation, but I enjoyed the whole book. There's my review while trying not to provide spoilers. Haha.
