Meet Harry Starks: club owner, racketeer, porn king, sociology graduate, and keen Judy Garland fan. There is - contrary to popular belief - a business like show business: It’s what Harry does. Fronting violence with rough charm and cheap glamour; performing menace while trying to jump the counter into legitimacy. Set in '60s London, the Kray twins and infamous landlord Peter Rachman are incidental characters in this superb novel.
One of the most enjoyable crime novels of the last 15 years for me and it's my favourite genre. Great audio performance too, well worth your time.
If you like rough gay sex, and violent criminality this is for you.... I don't so I abandoned any further listening about 20 minutes in. Can't really fairly rate it as I was completely alienated by its style and content.
