Garble!

Two major problems make Michael Gresham worth avoiding

1. While most novelists plot and plan a story, Ellsworth makes it up on the fly. The author seems as surprised from scene to scene as me. As if he got himself in a maze where he careened off walls of logical impossibilities to drag his battered narrative backward to stumble along another corridor - redefining (or abandoning)characters and plot to finally, be able to write 'the end". At which point Mr. Ellsworth was exhausted as me.

2. There aren't a lot of characters in this book but there are more than Stephen Hoye has voices. Mr. Hoye brings an annoying monotonic delivery to the lead character that's as if Star Trek's Mr. Data read us this garbled book.

At this moment there are two more books in this series... Which means that I shall save credits by buying neither of them.

Just okay

I found myself fast forwarding several times while listening to this. I am not sure if it was because of the narrator, or the story itself. I prefer books with more dialogue and less needless descriptions. I don't think I will read or listen to any more books in this series.

Interesting legal thriller with so-so narration

Michael Gresham is a Chicago criminal lawyer with issues. The law firm he founded 30 years ago kicked him out so he is now on his own. His 45 year old ex-wife who he is paying $7500 monthly alimony is shacked up with a kid half her age and they are trying to have a baby. His older brother is the top civil law attorney in Chicago; well, he is when he is when not off his meds for his bipolar condition. Finally, Michael is defending an ex-con who killed the wife of the judge who sentenced him to prison. This book is a wild, if not entirely credible, ride. This novel is Book 1 of the three novel Michael Gresham series. Stephen Hoye does a nice job of narration, but I find his voice monotonous.

Okay book

I think I would have given this a 4-5 star but for the narrator. I couldn’t stand the way he let the words drag out. Hard to explain but nevertheless it drove me nuts. Book other wise was good

Another amazing book by Ellsworth!!

My cousin turned me on to this wonderful author! That was less than two months ago. Since then I have read six of his well scripted books. As I have finished this one I have Carlos the Ant lined up to go. Mr. Ellseoworth is great at spinning these legal novels as is another John Grisham. In fact I think Ellseoworth books are more intense with just enough humor throw in to think this must be an autobiographical book! The more I read the more I am drawn into the lawyers life where it be Michael Gresham or Thaddeus Murphy. I recommend this book to anyone who likes good legal thriller.

Surprise excellent read!

This was the first book that I have had the opportunity to read and listen to y John Ellsworth, it was a surprisingly Stellar story! The story starts a little slow and builds like a rogue wave on the ocean. The narrator's style is unique when compared with many of the other narrators I have listened to, I found myself enthralled with his storytelling and his voice. I highly recommend this author and the Michael Gresham series!

Lawyer

I was unable to get past Chapter One. The book would stop and return to the Prologue. After multiple tries, I gave up.

Narrator

The audio book was entertaining. The narrator is way to dramatic. At first I thought it was a comedy because of the over dramatization of the narrator. I would buy more audio books in this series but probably won't. Can't handle the narration.
