Publisher's summary

In Kindle County, a woman is killed in an apparent random drive-by shooting. The woman turns out to be the ex-wife of a prominent state senator and an old acquaintance of Judge Sonia Klonsky, on whose desk the case lands. As the pursuit of justice takes bizarre and unusual turns, Judge Klonsky is brought face-to-face with a host of extraordinary personalities and formidable enemies bent on her destruction.

Critic reviews

"Turow once again proves that there is more substance in a single page of one of his novels than in the entire works of John Grisham or any other author in the legal thriller genre." ( Library Journal)

Characters so real you know them

I cannot think of another book I have read with more character development than this. The story was amazing. I should say stories because there were several subplots going on all wonderfully woven together before the end. I did not see some of the developments coming. This is a refreshing change From the predictable cookie cutter stories in most novels and movies.

Great plot. AWFUL sound interludes.

Love the author, love the story, but at the beginning and end of every chapter is this suspenseful transition music that's just awful and it totally disrupts the flow of the story. But... Still a good listen if you can get past that.

The times rang true; clever; but...

too much philosophizing by the main characters. Story line was not predictable. Brought back memories of the times; rang true. But when listening, esp on the cheap device I have, I can't speed up or skip, and the Sunny/Seth angst near the end just seemed to drag on and on.

excellent

One of the best audio books I have listened to.
The characterizations were spot on, and as always, Scott Turows language is moving .

Wonderful but annoying music

The story is excellent and having several performers really helped to make it clear who was talking. I highly recommend the book but be prepared to be annoyed by the ridiculous music between the chapters

I like my audio book being read, not performed.

What made the experience of listening to The Laws of Our Fathers the most enjoyable?

In this case, much less enjoyable by listening to a performance. It greatly diminishes my own experience for the author's writing. The relationship between the author and reader should be respected.I don't need actor's to interpret the book for me

Who was your favorite character and why?

How could the performance have been better?

No performance, straight reading.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I am a follower of all of Mr. turow's work. I enjoyed them all so far, in Multi levels.

Any additional comments?

I think I made myself abundantly clear how I listen to audio books. Give it to me straight.

The Laws of Our Fathers

What a wonderfully written book and I listen to it twice to fully understand it completely. A very good book that I would recommend.

Wow

Such a great book. The back-and-forth between past and current times. So glad I listened to it.

Excellent in so many ways

I cannot fault the story or the narrators.
The music was dreadful, overwrought, and unnecessarily intrusive.

Excellent

This was an excellent example of Turow delving deep into his characters. He moved further away from the law than I expected, but I loved every minute of it!
